Seasonal depression and bad habits creep up.
The world is constantly knocking on your door, demanding travel, plans, a relationship label, and capitalist spending.
Holiday and Vacation time existentialism. If you're the kind of person who likes spending new years or holiday PTO time with their true friends, nobody wants to just give that up lightly, even if it is for a few days or a new years kiss. If you're not a priority, then you're not even an option compared to family, extended relatives, family friends, close friends, and if you volunteer - community obligations.
I did notice this with a girlfriend who I dated shy of a year. (Probably one of 3 former girlfriends that I got along with the best.) Things in our relationship started going south right around the Holidays. She was more emotional and I think she was feeling lonely because it became a long distance relationship with my moving two hours away for my job. Our work schedules often didn't match so we didn't see each other as often as we would have liked. Thanksgiving weekend went well as we coordinated it with our schedules. But when Christmas came around, she travelled to the opposite end of the state as I went to. She was sick around New Years but I visited her anyway. I remember feeling like the relationship wasn't going to work.
But I think the quote that you post is accurate in a lot of cases. People start to think in terms of whether or not the person they are with can be part of their family.
I think lot of your choices sum up to one big reason. Holiday times for legitimate couples is often difficult both economically, mentally, and emotionally. Visiting family and lots of involvement with them does not help.
They say communication is the main reason couples break up. I think of personal biases that make someone incapable of validating or valuing the other person’s viewpoints or opinions, or disrespecting an entire person for a minor hindrance in dish washing or social performance or work performance, when one person is reasonable and the other is not, they are mismatched.

Because they spend more time with each other and finally reveal their true color. Getting too comfortable with your parter has its disadvantage. You can easily disrespect them without acknowledging it. When both refuse to compromise, that’s when the relationship will get stale over time and eventually end.
Uhm maybe the stress and them not being to handle that well?
Maybe also the family being an indicator that leads to fights etc?
Stress with family, planning, etc. There's so much going on during holiday season.
Because it's the only time, for the majority of them, where they have the chance, and "duty", to actually be together.
So the truth about their "relationships" emerges.
The prospect of anorher unhappy Holiday season mashed them realize how unhappy they are.
That's a great question. Maybe they realize that the person they're dating doesn't fit in their family as the post says.
Cheapskates don't want to have to buy presents.
Change often modify relationship and can break them. Holidays is change
The same reason why most people commit suicide on weekends.
Maybe cause it's cheaper to be single.
stresses hit a max.
They finally discover who the other person is.
Bad manners
I blame the eggnog.
They feel stressed
