I've known people who make 6 figures + who always complain they don't have enough, yet I've also known people who raise a family on little money who have a close, loving family and lead a meaningful life. When we raise our kids to believe they're entitled to handouts, no matter how much they have, they'll always want more and never be satisfied. When we help them to discover how they can meet their needs on their own, they become more confident and fulfilled.
Everything is treated as disposable nowadays... from possessions to relationships. People don't seem to understand the value of maintaining and nurturing what they have rather than constantly replacing everything when something new comes along. People often question how I can have as much as I have, since my income has never been great. I chose to focus on what was within my control rather than what I was entitled to. I designed and built my own home and maintain it on my own, and it's presently worth more than 5 times what it cost me to build. I couldn't afford to buy what I've created.
I once did volunteer work at a girls' home. I thought it was odd to see the girls doing the same thing all the time. I suggested to the administrator that these girls need more variety of experiences. She agreed but said it wasn't within their budget. I asked her if she would provide transportation if I could come up with new experiences every week that wouldn't cost her anything. She agreed, and I had the girls doing something new every weekend. They'd grumble on the way to the activity, as they had never heard of it before, yet it was a struggle to get them to leave when it was time to return home.
They key is to find ways to appreciate and make the most of what we have rather than losing interest and needing constant replacements. Find ways to personalize what you have, and you're more likely to value it more. Just look at that beat up old stuffed animal you couldn't let go of when you were young. See value in subtleties and what already exists rather than always fill our voids with fantasies of what could or should exist.

So-so. I could use a little more money each paycheck, but not that much more. Maybe an extra $500-800. I really just need to buy a new laptop and a new motorbike and I'll be set for a while.

However, with the rapidly declining economic crisis that's affecting everyone, we are still being extremely cautious and careful with our spending.

+1 yLately I'm financially stressed. I had a lot of money stolen from me. I was out of work do to health issues. Then my wife got sick and I had to take time off to care for her. It hasn't been a good year this year. Thank God it's almost over
00 Reply 1.3K opinions shared on Relationships topic. I started with nothing, so I wasn't blessed, but I've been working hard and managed to save up to the point where I don't have to think about money a lot anymore. I'll still cheap out where I can though.
