I still remember my first real "crush". We went to school together. He was a year older than me. I was probably around 5th grade when I started to see him as more than just anothee "icky boy". I came to realize that maybe he wasn't so "icky" and maybe "cooties" wouldn't be so bad to catch after all lol

I thought he was a cutie and he was a really nice little boy from a very nice/polite family. So I didn't mind him.

As we got older, I continuted to like him. He remained very handsome as he grew and each year, I thought he got better looking and sweeter than before. We were both rather shy and quiet, so we never really did discuss feelings and what not. I often wonder if he ever did like me back at all. I would catch him looking at me sometimes during lunch and I'd always try to look away because I was nervous about making eye contact with a cute guy. In school, I wasn't bold at all and I didn't think I was the least bit attractive. I didn't think a band girl like me would have a chance with a handsome, gifted artist like him.

After school, we lost track of one another. Then, I noticed him working at a local grocery store. I'd see him quite a bit when I'd go in there to help my grandma do her grocery shopping. I thought about going up to talk to him to see if he remembered me at all, but I also didn't want to be weird or awkward or bother him when he was at work. I stopped seeing him after a bit and never knew what happened. I figured he moved or just got another job.

Well, turns out he had joined the military. He died just a few months into his first deployment. I was absolutely heart-breaken when I heard that news. I immediately knew the name. And I immediately recognized that face. Even as a young adult in his early 20s, he was still unbelievably handsome. He had not changed at all in the face. He had just gotten a couple tattoos on his arm, but other than that, he literally looked the same and had been aging well.

I went to his services to pay my respects. It was my first time ever going to a military service like that and it was really hard. I hugged each of his family members. The pain in their eyes broke my heart all over again. I admired his artwork they had displayed. He was seriously such a gifted artist.

About a month after he died, I had a really weird encounter with someone. I was at a local laundromat doing my laundry and this lady just kept staring at me. I did not know her. I didn't recognize her at all. I had never seen her before, but she just kept staring a hole through me. She would watch my every move, never taking her eyes off me. It was starting to weird me out a little to be honest because I had no idea why she kept staring at me so intensely. Then she came over to me and started talking to me. At first, she was sharing about her kids. She then started focusing on one kid in particular. Her son. She said he was in the military and she worried about him. I understood completely. She then asked me if I knew *insert my recently deceased classmate her*. When she said his name, I got chills. How did she know him and how did she assume I knew him too? I said yes and mentioned I had gone to school with him and liked him a lot. She then told me that her son she was referring to was in the same unit as him. She told me they had grown close and her son had helped load my friend's casket onto the plane to come home. I was so shocked. She told me she really worried about her son because she just felt like he acted different but wasn't wanting to share detail with her. She said she just felt that something was "off".

I understood her concerns. I gave her all the best advice I could about how to support her son while he was away and offered my tips for steps to take once he came home. She greatly appreciated my input and my willingness to talk with her. I never seen hee again after that day. I often wonder whatever happened to her and how her and her son are doing now. I wish I had given her my phone number or something. I would have been more than happy to continue to offer her and her son all the love and support I possibly could. But I wasn't thinking clearly in that moment. I was pretty taken aback and shocked by the entire situation. Meeting her like that in such a random situation was bizarre and really sent my brain into a spin.

My classmate has been gone nearly 10 years now. I can't believe it's been so long. He was a really good kid and he died WAY too young at just 22. I really regret not becoming closer to him and not finding out the real truth behind how he felt. And I regret not giving his friend's mom my number.

That experience has been a valuable life lesson - ALWAYS say how you feel. If you like someone, tell them. Don't fear rejection. Rejection is totally normal and a part of life. It may bum you out, but it isn't the end of the world. At least you'll know the truth and be able to move on if you're rejected. Shoot your shot while you can. Say your "love yous". Apologize when you're in the wrong. Make sure you do and say things while you can because you never know when someone is no longer going to be around. Don't get used to putting it off until tomorrow or "next time" because tomorrow may not come and there may never be a "next time".

I was 11 or 12 and looking back he was so bad for me. But I thought I was mature; and going through my rebellion phase. I hope he doesn’t think of me and never considers looking for me. I unfortunately still have nightmares about him despite the years that have gone by.

The relationship after him is the one I think of fondly. I was 14 and he was 16 going on 17. We were good together, our drama teacher actually set us up. But after he graduated and went off to university we had difficulty maintaining a long distance relationship. And I was a minor while he was an adult and he caught a lot of flack for that from his college friends. I ended things with him. I do still think of him sometimes.

Damn it I was 15 years old. The girl seemed to like me And I also liked her, I remember the first day I saw her across the class room where we where conducting School religion time. I looked at her she looked at me and after that day we hooked. We even holding hands, she could run to me and hold my hand when we were going at the pared. I don't know she was being Nice or really into me 🤣🤦🏾‍♂️. To be honest I don't know maybe I was the problem. I tried to speak out my feelings, but in indirect way. I don't know if she ever understood me. Yes I admit I was shy, virgin and never knew how to talk to girls. She was older than me and upper in class. I was in Grade 2 she was in grade 4. Maybe this made her not to pursue me, because her friend said that, and I heard it with my own ears. So this self doubting that she might be hating me or don't want me kept me away from her. Even in her graduation, she took photos with my class mates who I introduced them to her, but I was scared even to talk to her. 😪 Man, this was so painful as nothing, first love to have some unfortunately circumstances. Sometimes I catch her looking at me when I work in the school ground in the morning. But she doesn't follow me or ask me anything. It was like that Until she did her National exam and left school. 1 year later she came to visit the school and we greeted each other. She was just cool and I was too. The feelings was already varnished and I saw her as a normal person now. But man this killed me back in the days 😭 I could not sleep, eat properly and I could not perform best at Sports (Volleyball at that time). And I dropped academic wise. Man it was tough. Next year I studied with her young sister in the same class, when I told her about this to tell her sister. I don't know if she ever told her or not 🤣 But It was among the phases of growth, I learnt lessons and moved on. This made me to be cold hearted and single up to today 😪🤣 but is just Iam single by choice.

It's hard to define "love" in my relationships. My relationships never really got to a point where I could "love" them as a mature romantic thing. I chose to act lovingly. I cared for them. I fell stupidly head over heels for a few. "Puppy love" maybe? But I think for what they were, I had some sort of sense not to put all my emotions and feelings right out there and claim love that didn't exist. And I would argue that it wasn't love, past "Christian love" or "the verb."

But I've fallen for a few. Fallen hard - head over heels stupidly twitterpated with one or two. But love... true love or whatever, it's hard to define as whether or not it's true or real as opposed to infatuation. If love can be fickle, and can honestly genuinely disappear quickly, then yes, I've been in love. But if we think true love takes time and patience and a lot of work and bad times WITH good times, then no, I haven't been in love (romantic love, anyway).

I got with my first girlfriend when I was 16. We were deeply infatuated and went steady for quite a few months. I liked her a lot but was hesitant to proclaim undying love.
In retrospect, at 16 years old, I didn't know what love was.
She and I separated. A few years later, one of my best friends married her. They had a couple of kids.
I'm Facebook friends with her. She's a happy grandma now. We have a lot in common from back in the day and she's really good people.

I had several other girlfriends, but was 37 when I first loved a woman with my heart and soul. We lived together for over a year but were not destined to spend the rest of our lives together. We separated or reasons that are complicated but had nothing to do with cheating or anything mean. It took me over a year to pull myself together and move on with life.

Twenty years after I had last spoken to her, she found me on Facebook and we even spoke a few times on the phone. I was elated. Even though I was happily married, we were still friends. Then, about five years later, I read that she had died from a sudden medical problem at age 55.

I was devastated. There is a hold in my heart that will never heal. I still love her and will never forget her.

I have no idea if it was actually falling in love since for all I know I've never been in love and maybe never will. But when I was 12/13, I one day just was mesmerized by my friend and classmate. Maybe her heterochromia or her chocolate-colored bangs were part of it, but there was something else I couldn't identify. But I was afraid to change the relationship, so she became my bestfriend after a couple years, which made me even more afraid to ask her out or anything. Then she dated another guy throughout all of high school, to my chagrin. I was 13. A beautiful girl named Sherry. I just stared at her. She was the daughter of my mother's friend, and I played guitar with her brother. But when it "hit" me, all I could do is stare.
