I'm from the Baltic States myself and my boyfriend is British but whenever we talk about cultures or nationalities he keeps confusing where I'm from with other random countries. Just now he recently made a comparison between Balts and Balkans and overall often refers to Baltics as Russians. I get asked really strange questions by him. I tried to inform him about what Baltic states are like and their history but he just keeps reverting back to his comments. I figured perhaps if I take him there and show him around then he will understand. We went away for a few days and I showed him the snow, the countryside, saunas, tall people, the whole shabang really but a few days passed and he's again mixing up North-Eastern Europe with like Turkey and random South-Eastern countries (nothing against them just can't stand it when people generalise half the continent). Is this coveted racism/imperialism from his side?
He just sounds ignorant and really bad at geography. That doesn't make him racist, unless he makes derogatory comments, or somehow consider people from the Baltic States inferior

He's not racist, he's just an idiot who can't grasp geography or cultures. He may have other skills or talents, and he may be a great guy, but he clearly just doesn't understand those things.
Willfully ignorant, perhaps, but not racist. The bar for racism is a bit higher than getting countries mixed up constantly.
