Is there a future with a gamer boyfriend?

He’s so nice as a person. We had up and downs together. But as time passes I realise that I would like to spend my life with someone who has future plans to grow as a better person aka mentally&personally and also there’s economic side of this growth I mentioned.

My boyfriend’s whole life is gaming and his friends are from gaming world. He works in a physical job. Thinking of living with him gives me the picture of him gaming in the other room while I do home cleaning and other stuff that should be done -This might be an untrue imagination.

Is there any future (nice and healthy one) with a gamer?

There's a few facets to this.

You said he's working in a physical job. So he's working. I guess I see the implications of what you're saying. That his job is not enough for you, that you don't feel it will provide enough? I guess you need more earning potential in the future?

The other facet is as other people have mention, just how much is he gaming. How attentive is he to you? Obviously, you can game in a healthy and balanced manner. Overall though, I think, I too don't regard it as a great hobby. But to each their own.

I suppose the other aspect is, in a healthy adult relationship, you have to be able to talk about uncomfortable things. Not that there probably won't be a lot of blow-back from doing so. But if you want the relationship to continue, I'd say you have to be honest. Just my opinion.

The question is how much, too much of anything is a bad thing, gaming is a pastime like watching TV was in prior generations. Most people spend many hours a day doing that. The only difference is gaming is far more involved and stimulating of the brain.

So the question is are they doing other work?

Yeah, of course! Now I'm a gamer, so my opinion might be a bit biased, but it is possible to date and live with a non-gamer.

Keep in mind, for most gamers, gaming is a way to destress, relax, and hang out with our friends... you know, a hobby. You said he has a job, so it's not like he's making a career out of playing games all day.

You can try gaming with him- I promise he'd probably love to teach and spend time with you!
Or while he's gaming, do your own thing? Find hobbies you enjoy and do them while he's gaming.

Basically as long as his own life doesn't revolve around gaming, it shouldn't be an issue. If it bothers you that much, however, ask yourself why it does.

Mm maybe if it makes some slight changes? My husband plays games as well but knows when to call it quits. If it's gotten to the point it's obsessive, then I would have a talk about it with him. There's a chance he might not knows he's gotten slightly addicted to games and gaming. If he doesn't change or cares to cut back a little bit for the sake of your relationship, then it's going to make the relationship very rocky to the point you might end up breaking up.

I dated a gamer that spent all his free time gaming, and I didn't end up sticking around.

I always felt like I was a nuisance to him, when I wanted to spend time with him (because I had to request it to get him off of his game).

If you two can agree on him not gaming all of his free time away, sure. But that might be hard. My current partner games, but he doesn't do it all the time. And he makes sure he prioritizes me above the games, always.

You have someone who enjoys games and someone who's addicted to it. They're not all the same. You must find out which one he is somehow. I like playing games, but I have responsibilities too. If my gamer boyfriend recognizes this in himself as well, I'd say there is a future.

A friend from school once advised me to date a gamer. So he said that those guys can change for you and have a good mind since they need it during the game , funny but I guess its true. I guess every career has advantages and disadvantages so make ur point with what and how you want to be treated and he will understand

Depends.. what exactly do you want him to do?

If he was just idly dossing around playing games all day I'd think there was a problem. But you say he works hard at a physical job. Playing computer games is his way to relax, unwind, and have entertainment in his spare time I see nothing wrong with that.

If you have a problem with it, talk to him about it. But it may be that the two of you simply want different things so are not compatible.

He might grow out of it. I been playing games since I was 4 and when I got to early 30s I just got bored... Like I still play games but very rarely and not for long, i seen it all before, it doesn't excite me. So I guess if you can wait... maybe?

You can ask him to live stream if he is that good. And at the same time, remember you fell in love with him. Don't let the practical growth aspects fool you from your love for the man.
