How can I walk away from this one-sided friendship without seeming immature about it? ?

I've been friends with this guy for a year now. He's very selfish and self-centred. I've always been there for him and supported him, but he's proven he'll never be there for me. He's a user and manipulative. I think he may be a narcissist. He always gives me backhanded compliments. It's taken a year to see through his fake persona.

He has a negative effect on my mental health. I need to end the friendship, but not sure how to go about it without being immature about it.

Answer: You walk away. You have been waiting for him to reciprocate in a manner which you expect from him, but he too has the choice to say no. In fact, the backhanded compliments sound like passive aggressiveness as he can't get you to leave him alone. In any relationship, the two parties need to be clear re what they want especially if emotions get in the way.
Your best bet, in a mature fashion, is to simply delete, block, and walk away.

When people aren't douchebags, I will always say not to ghost because it's just wrong. However, in that case, ghosting for you seems to be the easiest. I wouldn't focus too much on him and what he would say or do.

Start Ignoring him, Don't give much importance to him.. Do it slowly in a way that He can't even realise that you are getting. away. What I mean to say is that if he ask you to some hangouts, if you accept 90% times, start reducing it. When you come together, dont show much of your interest, He will also start loosing interest eventually from you.

First let him know how you feel and your point of view on things. If he acts like the victim and blames everything on you, that’s when you can tell him how toxic and negative he’s been on your life. I think it might be a good think to talk to him and be honest about your feelings. Explain your perspective, if you want listen to him but if this is the final decision and he acts immature: walk away. You did what is best for you...
