I think this is true because you are more likely to notice your own contribution then you are to notice the work of others and most people are not willing to give without getting something back, even if the only reward they get for their kindness is a happy boyfriend or girlfriend.

Yes definitely agree. I dated a guy where i did basically all the work in the relationship and he did barely anything. I was young and I didn't know better. Also I was raised in this 1950s toxic mentality where women have to do everything to make the relationship work by themselves. My dad taught me that and he is a narcissist. So I think the hardwork in a relationship should be matched in certain ways. Like say the woman keeps the entire house clean then the outside and backyard should be maintained by the man. Or the old fashioned mentality of like the man works and the woman is the woman of the house. Or vice versa. But that's something that's agreed upon and not forced.

Ideally yes this is how it should work but lately it feels more like more people are only getting involved in relationships for what they can benefit from it and have no idea how to contribute.
