My brother's wife was cheating on him. When he found out he ignored it and spoke to a divorce lawyer. He encouraged her to take a promotion and he reduced his working hours to part time 3 days per week and just told his wife they cut his hours, this way he looked after the kids and sending them to school and picking them up, feeding them etc. So when he decided to divorce her 2 years later he ended up getting alimony and as the primary child carer for their kids he got full custody and he got child support too and possession of the family home. She couldn't believe it, she just assumed she would get full custody, alimony, the house, child support. He'd also been taking a steady amount of cash out of their joint bank accounts under the guise of paying bills. He'd take out say $200 for groceries that were worth say $100, same thing with mechanics, buying gas and so on. He stored it at our father's who was in on it and by thd time if the divorce he'd built up about $50,000 in cash that she'd never get half of. He'd also moved or sold anything that belonged to him that was worth anything and hid the cash at my father's. He basically took most of their joint savings.
He handled it really well and after the court case he started back full time at his job and is getting alimony and child support on top of his earnings.

I don't know the legal details. But I've known large numbers of divorced people in my life and very few of them paid or received alimony. Child support is common, but not alimony.
They also split assets. How that's done depends on the state. Even in states with joint property it's not straight forward. Getting married does not automatically mean all existing assets become joint property. Even after marriage not all income is joint income. For example **I think** in my state income from rental properties that were owned before marriage remain the sole income and property of the original owner.
Realistically, alimony is a small part of divorce. Even in the really nasty divorces it's a small part of it.
In a divorce, the overall assets of the couple are divided, close to 50-50, with some exceptions. That usually means the spouse who makes more money contributes to the spouse who makes less. That may involve alimony or it may involve a one-time cash payment.

I’m the breadwinner in my marriage. If we split up mutually or at my fault, depending on the circumstances, I’d gladly pay alimony for a period of time.
I know many people who pay alimony and are just fine with it. My point is women also pay if the situation is reversed even if it is far and few between.

What if he changes his mind and a judge throws out your piece of paper and make you pay it anyways? Both things typical. Where the ex changes their mind and that a judge doesn't accept documents like that include even prenups.
My dad knows somebody who married a very smart women and she wanted a divorce and he now gets $70,000-$90,000 after taxes each year in alimony payments and he doesn't have to work a job anymore. If she retires she still has to pay alimony cause she owns property that is worth so much moneys the judge believed it was justified that he should be granted the same alimony pay cheque forever, even if she retires from her job.

Highly unlikely, and it depends a great deal on the state in which you divorce; which sometimes depends on the state in which you were married. Some states still haven’t even updated their laws to reflect a possible reversal of roles. If alimony is, by definition, spousal support for divorced women, men cannot receive it, by law.

Depends upon the difference. If it is relatively close, perhaps not. If it is three times as much, yes. But the length of the payments will depend upon the duration of the marriage. In my state it is limited to 1/2 the length of the marriage unless the separation takes place after more than ten years of marriage, which could make the spousal support open ended till the ex remarries or cohabits (make sure your divorce attorney includes that provision or you will be sorry).
