Social anxiety is very different mostly because it is not shyness and that's what people think. Do you have a core group of friends that you hang out with? Or even just one good friend?
Perhaps, going to a psychologist or a psychiatrist will help. Sometimes they have meds that can take the edge of the anxiety. I know a girl who takes one little pill a day for this.
