Have you ever reunited with an ex after an unpleasant breakup? If so, how did the relationship work the second time?

I dated Pat in 1979-1980, and she decided to return to her ex-husband because she felt guilty about their divorce. In 2003, I reunited with Pat and we married in 2005. We divorced early in 2007 after she was unfaithful to me. In reuniting, I ignored the warning signs.

Later that year, I met Oksana and we dated throughout 2007 and 2008. Then she moved about 250 miles away and we drifted apart. I kept in contact with her and we eventually started trying to rekindle things on a long distance basis, but she wasn't willing to make the effort and I decided to say goodbye so that I could move forward with my life.

When you try a relationship and it doesn't work the first time. . . you can try it again but it usually doesn't work the second time, either. . . unless the problem was just distance (like graduating high school and going to different colleges.)

What is your experience wth trying to reignite a failed relationship?

Oh maaan haha my first relationship was an on off thing over a time span of 3,5 years. .. I will say cause we both weren't that serious about this relationship and broke it off for the stupidest shit lol
At one point we had a big fight and I broke up, thinking this time for good. 8 months pass and there he is again and I took him back. He is the only one I ever took back.

And this last 'on' was the best time with him.
It felt like we both were more serious about each other and it didn't felt like "teenager sht", I really like that time with him but still this relationship was doomed to fail from the day we met and so it did but in a really pleasant full with respect way.

I think it all depends on how the first relationship ended, if on friendly terms then sure, if it was cheating or from mental abuse then no. If it was distance or because of age etc, then over time that might change or both parties might mature enough for a real relationship

I've never tried to reunite with an ex to give it a second try... never had unpleasant breakups either

my first two former girlfriends and from school days, we're good friends today, so we're still bonding like that just friends... with the more recent ex-girlfriends I am friendly terms with but I would not call them close friends

neither of these cases though, I would never try to go back to a romance, we completed our cycles

In my cases, we both knew it was time to move on. My longest term girlfriend is still a friend, exchange Christmas cards, etc. Sweet lady. In retrospect, seeing what happened- and didn't happen- in her life, I see why she did- and didn't do- certain things when we were dating.

I gave her a second chance and I don’t know why when she gaslighted my first suicide attempt

well I take that back I went back to her because she was the closest thing to a support system I ever had

and I thought if I made her happy she would always be there for me

I mean I’m really an idiot just a fool she doubled down on the trauma and abuse I dealt with as a child

and now I just use women for sex im unable to make a real connection

Yes, a couple of times. I didn’t actually want it but they insisted me to give us a try, so I agreed. Ended up they just resent me more which made the ending to be worse than the first break up. Since then, I learn my lesson.

Their is really no reason to reunite with an ex cause you will end up with them breaking up with you again or you end up breaking up with them for the same reason that it happened in the first place

I never tried to reignite the flame with an ex. The only time I ever broke up with someone is bc I did not see a future together. I doubt much would change over time.

I am with my ex wife. We had a big breakup involving infidelity (on both of our parts) and just a mess. We reunited after separation of nearly 8 years and hve been back together for over 20 years, still happily married.

When the past is calling they usually don’t have anything new to say. I’ve done the off and on again (without any real time apart). wouldn’t do something that childish again.
