When you stop dating someone, are you breakups usually peaceful and friendly or "somebody call the cops!"?

I have dated probably a hundred women over the past 35 years. Most of the breakups were the civilized, "this doesn't seem to be working well for either of us" kind of break ups. A few were the embarrassing kind that bring out the worst in everyone. At least the bad break ups helped me to avoid picking such awful partners again.

The worst involved my girlfriend getting drunk, accusing me of being unfaithful with various women around the country (I was at home EVERY night and never cheated on her,) trying to snatch my phone from my hand, losing her grip and falling backwards, hitting her head on the wall, then calling police and having ME arrested for domestic violence. Typical cop bias resulted in me spending a night in jail before the prosecutor eventually decided that there was NO evidence to support any domestic violence charge and the case was dismissed. Lesson learned and I now stay away from girls who seem to drink just a little too much, too often.

My break ups I try to make clean cut.
Generally speaking I try to just treat people decent. It's only when they resist or actively turn hostile that I have to respond accordingly.
One ex tried to do this thing where we just wouldn't talk for a day then he'd try to start a regular conversation with me, like nothing happened.
It was frustrating and insulting.
I'm sure in his head it was because he really liked me but it only added to the reasons why I couldn't continue with him.

I wouldn’t say they’re usually peaceful or friendly, but the breakups have never been “I need to call the cops” bad. Usually just the guy I’ve broken up with having a temper tantrum, throwing things around or swearing off at me, because I didn’t tolerate his abusive/narcissistic behaviour or he got caught doing things he shouldn’t have been doing like cheating.


I’ve had 2 peaceful/friendly breakups because it was mutual. But that’s only 2 so that’s not the usual case.

Both of my serious relationships did not have peaceful breakups. The first one, I was the one who made it not so peaceful. I acted an ass and made things harder than they needed to be. The second one she was pissed that I found out she was cheating and she raised all the issues.

As for dates where things did not pan out, all but one of those was peaceful.

Most of the time I just stopped calling them or else she would not return my calls. I did it over the phone once. Still, I always wanted to have a real bad breakup where we would be trading insults in the middle of the street.

maybe not but I imagine being in the pouring rain screaming insults at her while she calls me the filthiest names ever known to mankind, Her hair is stringy from the rain and her mascara is running. My t shirt is soaked through and you see my muscles rippling through the wet fabric as it clings to my body. Finally I just tell her to go F herself and walk off never to be seen again. I can still hear her screaming at me as I walk away.

My fantasy is walking out of the courtroom with the divorce having been granted on terms favorable to me. I turn to her and in a roaring, surrealistc voice, deliver my final words to her: "Return to Hell, demon!"

I once asked a girl out who was a very close mate and we did a lot of things like travel together, binge watch shows, cook for each other over a solid 2 years

anyway she gave me the nicest rejection then blocked me on everything then, 2 months later she called the police on the charges I asked her out..

The police came straight to my house and said they wouldn't press charges cause I haven't done anything wrong, but also informed me the girl herself didn't want to press charges 🤣

I miss the friendship I had, but I've lost all respect for her
