It's the adage that past actions, situations predict future ones. What caused his trauma? How did he handle it? Has he had therapy to move him through it? Is he stable now?

If you have satisfactory answers to those questions, this may be a good person to be friends or more with. If not, walk the other way. It's not a good idea.

I think what matters is how they currently treat you. How they currently treat you reflects on if you should be cautious about their traumatic pasts or not.

No, who gives a shit? Most people experience trauma at some point and it's normal. It's nothing to make a big deal about. Trauma or no-trauma, people only care about your actions and how you make them feel.
