It's unfair, but there's only so much you can do, and it's not their business where you get married or how to raise your kids when that time comes. Be the best partner you can be for your person and show that you are responsible and can take care of them, and they'll most likely see that and turn around.

You don't have to match your partner's religion. There's always a middle ground and keeping to yourself and/or respecting the other person's while having your personal beliefs.

I have an uncle who is not religious, while his wife is fairly religious. It works. But he's pretty successful too. But really, you should in my opinion never convert to your partner's religion to appease their family.

I think your views on religion should match your partner's views (I personally refuse to date anyone who is religious because it's all nonsense).

well it depends who you fall in love with but you should consider talking to your partner and trying to get on the same foot with it and if that is not possible meaning you too dont agree on one decision then No i dont think its right for your partners family to judge based on what you believe in but that is just my opinion :)

Judge is one thing, interfere is another. They can have opinions, but ultimately, it is not their place to dictate their son's/daughter's relationship. A parent should give advice, not impose.

With that being said, as long as your views match with your partner's, I don't see what the issue is. Some people are so fixated in dating within their own race, religion or culture, that they miss out on great loving partners that could treat them better than somebody who is "closer".

Being judgmental is a normal, healthy mental state. Despite all of this hippy crap about being "non-judgmental" every single person I know, myself included, is very judgmental. It's how you discern who you want to associate with or who you don't feel safe around. People are constantly judging each other. You yourself are judging your ex's parents and asking us to do the same as well.

The parents didn't like that you're irreligious and their daughter agreed with them, that's life.

I’m not catholic but when you’re a Christian it’s best to enter relationships with other Christians (for a lot of reasons) but if you decide to date someone who isn’t, then I don’t think you should be judging them at all or making assumptions about them

No one should be judged on their religion beliefs, for example my neighbor's grandson got married in a Baptist Church but according to the Catholic Religion they need to get married in a Catholic Church to make things legal in the Catholic eyes.

I think the question doesn't make sense. Whether or not it is fair doesn't really mean anything. The point is that they have every right to judge them on that basis if they wish (or any other basis for that matter). "Fairness" is not the only criterion that is meaningful.
