Why do some girls casually ask a guy they barely know to marry them? They appear intelligent, normal and don't come off as desperate or clingy?

I am a guy, a 7 or 8, sigma type (centered, confident, social, but content being alone), and I have been honored, yet mystified by 5 or 6 such proposals. On the other hand, I am impressed by women who break social protocol and have initiated a relationship. I've seen male friends who had little confidence in dating girls get snatched up and reprogrammed by a girl who proposed -- this is not quite the same.

My guess is: 1. they what to cut to the chase, not play the dating game. Money may have had a little to do with it, in one instance, but that wasn't always the case. Could it be looks/hormonal attraction/genetic procreation? Are they just Lonely, or needing to get away from an undesirable living situation?

I realize there can be several reasons. Your POV and opinion are appreciated. But insights from women who have or wanted to propose to someone they barely knew would be most helpful.
