We actually don't say "I love you" here in Japan. My wife and I have never said this to each other.

We prefer a show, not tell approach. So we show our love by doing nice things for each other all the time, hugging, dancing, smiling, laughing, making love, holding hands, etc, but never say "I love you".

I actually think this is better even though it might seem so strange to Westerners because I see too many Western people, especially young ones, say "I love you" without actually showing it. It is too easy to say it and not mean it, like a young person saying "I will love you forever and always be by your side" only to break up with the other a month later.

In Japan, we are forced to show our love since we don't say "I love you".
