That’s so sad. My mom did this and actually explained it that way. When her and her siblings were kids, her mom never celebrated ANY of their birthdays. No cake. Not a single card or gift. Not a solitary balloon. She wanted to do different for her kids and always gave my siblings and I really nice ones. Sometimes we didn’t like the attention and weren’t used to, but I’m so grateful she did. We also try to repay the favor when we can. Be there for her and all, and treat her like the queen she is. But yeah, basically she lives as if every day is her birthday.
