Are we having an emotional affair?

A close guy friend has been codependent for about five months now with me. He keeps on wanting to know how i am and finds other ways to contact me if I deactivate my fb. Sometimes if I reactivate, he welcomes me back on the same day. For the past three to four months, he has been used to often taking care of me asking how i am and acting as my doctor since he knew i got sick. It seems he is happy with always taking care of me and being the rescuer. He also likes to compliment me and wants to be complimented back in turn.

Lately, he got in an accident which needed surgery. Although he got in an accident and is in the hospital, he still asked how my health was and told me to check on him before and after his surgery even remotely.

He also talks really sweetly with me and said sorry he caused me stress. The problem with him is a year ago, he is not that transparent with me and did not tell me he has a girlfriend, he told me it was his room mate but with our common friend, he told him it was his partner. I got upset and ghosted him. He fought to be back in my life and the codependency ensued. Sometimes when we talk, he leaves his house and tells me he'd rather talk in a cafe or gym because someone else might hear.

He also complains about the "room mate" to me and tells me his room mate is abusive and he can't wait to leave the place. He did leave and began to stay in my city which is also his hometown but it looks like he still has communication with the girlfriend.

His emotional dependence and codependency with me is a bit alarming so im wondering if im already in an emotional affair without knowing it.
