If I don't fall asleep before him I cannot sleep all night because of his loud snoring. I poke him and all but he starts again. My whole day gets ruined because I cannot get enough sleep, and I become grumpy. I also act aggressively toward him. So it ruins our relationship. What is the way to solve this issue?

u +1 ySnoring can be a sign of sleep apnea, a potentially serious medical condition. You should suggest that he consult a pulmonologist or sleep medicine specialist for an evaluation. In the meanwhile - I know this suggestion sounds awful, but - perhaps you should sleep in separate bedrooms.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yTbh the concept of having to sleep with your partner or you don’t love them is strange. Just sleep in a separate and buy and extra bed if you have the space. At the end of the day you still get to see each other all the time and can still nap together etc in the bed if you want
Back in medieval times royalty used to always sleep in separate beds because it was considered a luxury. My grandparents also did the same for their entire marriage and it was never a problem. Sleep is important for a good quality of life sleeping separate will make it where you won’t resent him and you get what you need00 Reply
+1 ySnoring is uncontrollable. Have you tried noise cancelling ear pods? Doctor's can also prescribe a treatment but the person who snores has to be consistent.

+1 yMy SO cannot sleep because (she claims) I snore too much, and too loud. We have an easy solution... separate bedrooms. That works out well since we go to bed and get up at different times anyway.

I clicked Submit too quickly. I wanted to add that I know several married and unmarried couples who also sleep in separate bedrooms. And it's not just older couples. My ex-wife's sister and brother-in-law got separate bedrooms shortly after they got married, and that was 30 years ago... still married.

Navigating the choppy waters of snore-induced sleepless nights can indeed test the bonds of love! But fear not, for every problem, there's a solution waiting to be snuggled up to. First, love requires communication—so have a heart-to-heart with your partner. Explain how his nightly symphony affects you, but keep it gentle and loving. A doctor's visit might be in order—a snoring partner might have underlying health issues like sleep apnea.
Experiment with practical fixes like anti-snoring devices, changing sleeping positions, or even a humidifier in the bedroom. Investing in a good pair of earplugs for yourself can also be a game-changer. Remember, tackling this together can actually bring you closer, turning a challenge into an opportunity for growth. Sweet dreams are made of teamwork, after all! 😉10 Reply

1. Lifestyle Changes:
Weight Loss: If your boyfriend is overweight, losing weight can reduce the fatty tissue in the throat and decrease snoring.
Exercise: Regular physical activity can help tone muscles, including those in the throat, which can reduce snoring.
Sleep Position: Encourage him to sleep on his side rather than his back. Sleeping on the back can cause the tongue and soft palate to collapse to the back of the throat, blocking the airway.
2. Bedroom Environment:
Elevate the Head: Elevating the head of the bed or using an extra pillow can help open up the airways.
Humidifier: Using a humidifier can keep the air in the bedroom moist, which may help reduce snoring, especially if dry air is a contributing factor.
3. Good Sleep Hygiene:
Regular Sleep Schedule: Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule can help reduce snoring. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day can improve sleep quality.
Avoid Alcohol and Sedatives: Alcohol and sedatives relax the muscles in the throat, which can worsen snoring. Encourage him to avoid these substances, especially before bedtime.
4. Medical Interventions:
Nasal Strips or External Nasal Dilators: These can help increase the space in the nasal passage and make breathing easier.
Oral Appliances: A dentist can fit your boyfriend with a custom-made oral appliance that helps keep his airway open.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP): For more severe cases of snoring, especially if associated with sleep apnea, a CPAP machine can be used to keep the airway open during sleep.

+1 yHe could try nasal strips to widen his nose , taping his mouth closed. He is a mouth breather so there may be no cure but if the reason he breathes through his mouth because he can’t get the air needed through his nose then that’s where to start. He could have a sinus issue or a deviated septum both of these can mean snoring. He needs to want to do the research , sleep apnea is real so he should want to ! … failing that just sleep elsewhere

+1 yHe probably has sleep apnea like me, usually when you have 17 inch diameter neck or more this happens, probably needs a better pillow and should go to a sleep study doctor for a solution and probably get the mask with air supply, actually those beds that tilt up like in the hospitals work too and weight loss

+1 ySee about getting him one of those jaw braces that prevent snoring, see if getting him to sleep on his side changes it. Or just sleep in another room
00 Reply 1K opinions shared on Relationships topic. Earplugs in the short-term and face away from him in bed, but have him see his doctor. If you record his snoring so he can hear what is happening it may encourage him to seek help.
02 Reply1.1K opinions shared on Relationships topic. There are things on the market to help with snoring. One is a piece that goes in the mouth another on the bridge of the nose. I am sure you can find something. An adjustable bed to raise his head a bit will help too.
