My boyfriend cries in his sleep?

He's done it twice now.

i was asleep and I kept hearing him breathe in and it sounded uncontrollable and he would make little whimpering sounds and when I turned to see his faced he looked really upset and sad although he was still mostly asleep.. I put my hand on his face and he stopped immediately and I pulled him close and then I fell asleep like that. the next morning he didn't say anything or act any different so I went along with it. then a couple nights later he did it again. I started to kiss him and hug him and stuff and he stopped immediately again..

we haven't been fighting and there's no huge problems going on in our life. we aren't perfect though. I don't know how to bring it up or what to say to him.

I'm almost sure if I do he'll get really embarrassed or deny it. I'm a little sad that he doesn't feel like he can come to me if something is wrong with him. my friend says I should let him get past it himself because no man wants to cry to his girlfriend. is this right? should I let hm deal with it himself or bring it up to him. I feel a little helpless, I love him more than anything. I just don't know what I should do to make him feel better. or what's even wrong.

There is probably some traumatic event that happened to him the past, that he is reliving in his dreams. When you comfort him, he feels your warmth and immediately stops. This might be quite embarrassing or uneasy for him to speak about. But let him know you're there for him and that you care. Let him know, you aren't going to judge him and that you won't look at him any differently. The way you bring this up, will have a heavy effect on how he responds to you.

Just calmly, ask him what he has been dreaming of lately. If he asks why, let him know that he seemed very distraught in his dreams.

He might not remember any thing at all, and this may not even be a issue.

But at least you know you asked and do not have to be concerned.

There could be something terrible that happened in his past like sexual abuse or maybe the death of someone close occupies his dreams :(

It's nothing. Don't worry about it. My mom told me I used to cry and sleep walk in my sleep.

No I had a perfectly happy childhood. I am also perfectly fine now.
