My aspirations and plans as well as my previous failed relationships and situationships made me realize I am.

  Agreed, but most romantic gestures nowadays are considered expected and mandatory, which gets taken advantage of, that makes us not want to even do it. Plus romance in modern society is very warped and materialistic.
