Why do you think some couples want to challenge the restrictions of traditional monogamous relationships?

Because monogamy is an artificial recent social construct in order to pass along fixed assets to legitimate heirs as opposed to when we were nomadic and it was best if we were highly promiscuous that way the band wouldn't know who the father is and so they all had a stake in raising the child. Monogamy is just stupid and contrary to our nature.

Some people believe themselves to be more mature and more capable of "true" love without jealousy and they feel the need to prove that my engaging in open relationships.

Because they don't have the fear of the Lord. They do as they please because to them there are no consequences, they just want to try new things and if both are okay with that then they choose to do so but I know that eventually it will not be okay and they are left with a void.

"traditional" monogamous relationships are only one type of relationship. i wouldn't say its challenging it to just do a different type

Because monogamy is only one type of relationship. It is the “norm” in society but not the only type. It may not work for everyone

I think everyone just lives theirs lives however they want and be happy.

I would say our relationship is modern traditional. We both work, but I cook, clean more than he does. He does most of the outside work (shoveling snow, cutting the grass, etc.). He also disciplines me regularly.
