There is no reason a man or woman couldn’t survive alone these days like they could in the generations before. Women weren’t allowed to have their own bank accounts and credit cards in their single name until the 1970’s, and there was still a huge stigma about marriage and relationships all the way through the 90’s. In previous generations, men HAD to marry in order to be considered people, in order to live a life and if they weren’t married they were forced to live off of their parents. This is where gender roles came in, as the man would usually be the provider, he would have the job (and most women couldn’t succeed at getting one that paid as well at that time anyway) and his wife would be the homemaker in the ideal nuclear family scenario. Now that we’re in a place where men and women can stand on fully legal and economically equal ground, do you think gender roles are necessary in society?

I've always felt since I was in fifth grade sixth grade that women were smart intelligent wise and they could be independent and live on their own anyway I mean I love when women are that way I hope they don't all go that direction because I would like to date women I mean..

But I never knew that a woman had to have a man because I've always felt that they could do whatever they wanted to do by themselves if that's who they are I mean that's who they are and that's that's beautiful

I think if people want them and are ok doing them then whatever, but only if both are consenting. It should never be forced or expected.

No. It’s in men’s DNA. 🧬 and masculine men will be not usually attracted to a woman trying to assume a non-traditional role. Typically. I mean as an every day individual I can be polite and skirt around people and I don’t delve into that. I can humor people

in my daily life.. i personally would never get involved with a lady that wanted to act male. Thats just me. All the social programming and deconstruction of the traditional society is not going to change genetics. And genetics are far more powerful than societal values.

i get what you are saying. But you used the phrase 'act male'. What is acting male? Is being a physician acting male? Is driving? Driving a school bus or a dump truck? What about voting? Is voting acting male? or owning property? Or being a small business owner? Or a large business owner? Im not being argumentative. I just want you to draw a finer red line between acting male and acting female... so we women will know how to act. :)

Women, on one hand want to build a career with the same ambition men do, but have their biological clock ticking as well. I am expressly speaking of that it is completely unappealing when a woman acts alpha at home. To me. TO ME only. I understand there are many many circumstances out there. Women have to do what they have to do. God bless them. Society is changing.

But for me I can do alpha girl no matter what she looks like. She has to be feminine at home. Or.. I will find a less attractive woman who is. And prefer that. That is fine. But I couldn’t care less about alpha attitude hot girl

Sure, if you just want a different culture that still respects and mostly adheres to the reality of gender roles to eventually just replace the ones that don’t recognize they are still important because they reflect the reality of human sexual dimorphism.

Recognition of biological differences? Yes we MUST do that!

Examples:
I STRONGLY think women should get social security credit at their last salary before leaving job for birth and recovery (up to a point so they're not disincentivized to return to the workforce) BUT I also believe there should be BOTH paternity and maternity leave and each get credit to stay home with kids (to a point). 🤷‍♂️

Men and women in this era can of course live alone without a partner , are they happy? It's upto them

Families with gender roles are doing great, so it does seem to be still going great even though there are other options now unlike the past

Maybe not required, but they certainly seem to provide a lot of people with a certain level of familiarity and comfort.

In other words; I think that enough people think gender roles "just make sense" that it would probably be silly to say that they don't have utility in modern life

I think the way you're framing it as women "weren't allowed" to have credit cards, is to misunderstand it. Men were "expected" to provide everything for women, to make it so she had no need to work or hassle with finances. This was the duty of men to work and provide so women didn't have to. It also just wasn't that common that women were forced to fend for themselves or act as the breadwinner.

They literally had to make a law forcing banks to allow women to have bank accounts and credit cards in their names as independent women. The Equal Credit Opportunity Act was the only documentation that would force banks to give them cards without a male cosigner

Sure, I don't doubt it, but what I'm saying is men felt obligated to take care of women back then, it was seen as a noble and desirable thing. I mean look at the music and culture of the Sinatra era, of which I'm a huge fan. All of the music is about men wanting to find love and marriage. Now... men are saying no thanks to any of it. It was just a given back then that men would deal with that part so women didn't have to.

I’ve never heard of a woman fixing power lines in a winter storm or in the mountains, I’ve never seen a woman high rise metal worker, I’ve never heard of an entire wildfire crew being female, I’ve never even seen a concrete worker or a woman build cattle fence before. I think blanket statements like that are unnecessary. Couples should do whatever works best for them. I actually know a lot of more traditional couples who have great relationships and their children are better off for it.
