My wife is tripping out about me wearing makeup. Any suggestions on how to respond?

I got more and more into makeup over the last few years. I've always had some acne and scars and now am starting to notice my aging. The makeup isn't colorful, but it's obviously noticeable. My wife is probably embarrassed about it and keeps telling me I don't need to do it, and to just be confident about myself. I don't want to do the whole "but you do it" thing with her, because she obviously recognizes that. I just don't know how to get her onto my side. Some ideas would be really appreciated.

Your wife clearly has the expectation that you stick to certain gender roles and make up is one of those things that is expressed as very strongly feminine. If your concern is the appearance of your skin I would recommend maybe a trip to a dermatologist to come up with a skin care plan for handling your acne scars and improving their overall appearance. If you do make up because you enjoy it, tell her that and let her know you plan to just do it at home, at least that way she doesn’t have to feel ashamed about letting others see it.
