How to tell your date she's wearing too much makeup?

So there's this girl from work that I found interesting and had this "homely" and relaxed vibe to her, so I asked her out to find out more.

So when we finally meet at the mall she comes with the heaviest makeup on, to the point I had to ask "is that you"? And I awkwardly just pretended it was a positive question but, in reality I was like "what the hell".

Bright red lipstick, a pale porcelain skin, heavy eyebrow work done. That's not the person I asked out on a date.

I can imagine she might be insecure about her skin and really try to impress me but, I also don't wanna come off as an asshole to just tell her how to dress or wear her makeup. How do I handle it best?

Compliment her more when she looks good to you, and less when she doesn’t. Be specific. If you’re not good at noticing subtler makeup and hair dos, get better at it. You have to be very specific with women. They tend to have better attention to detail about these things and they can read some absolute nonsense into vagueries. You can also be quite frank by saying, “Less is more,” or “I want to see more YOU (and less makeup),” or something of the like. Recall for her a time when you were inspired to ask her out, and be clear about how she looked and what she did to attract your attention.
Personally, i prefer the direct approach.

The good news: she put in some effort. Isn't that a positive gesture?

Suggestion: arrange the next date in a way that make-up is just not possible. Such as going swimming, or am exhausting activity. On that occasion you can then mention how much better you like her looks when she's... natural :)

Of course it's positive but it gives you an entirely different vibe. Like the kind of person that spends all day on TikTok listening to what the crowd says instead of being more down to earth.
