I did that during the COVID lockdowns when daycare was unavailable, then ridiculously expensive. It went on for a couple years. My wife had just gotten a job that paid better than mine, and we had just moved.

The first couple months were extremely tense. Not because she was giving me hell, but because I was incredibly uncomfortable with not working. She was fine with it though, and I got to spend some years with my kids that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

It is ludicrously easy to keep a house compared to work. The mental stress of being with kids and not other adults all day is the only real burden.

I know of some instances where this has occurred recently. They have been in long duration relationships in which the boyfriend/husband has experienced loss of employment in downsizing. In a technical career it can be difficult to regain employment.

Ironically or otherwise it seems that it can be easier for the girlfriend/wife to pick up work because there is more part time service focused work for women.

I don't think it is a preferred option because they revert back when possible. I have known younger women to say they'll give their boyfriend two years to get his act together. Seems as though there is a clock ticking quietly in the background for house husbands.

For long duration couples it becomes a matter of keeping what they've got together and doesn't see much of an issue.

My hubby is a stay at home dad at this point and it has been working really well the past 3 years. since we moved in together after dating 4-5 years.
he does so much in the house. He fixes our cars, fixes the computers, cooks 2-3 times a week, groceries shopping, takes care of the kids, keeps the garden nice, he keeps the house orderly. He also goes with his buddies to ride their dirt bikes, or bike ride. It’s a life he never thought he would be doing but he is loving it and goes back to work js not necessary since we have enough money at this point.

I think it's great. I guess there must have been some judgments about your situation.

Sorry I don't remember, but what work are you doing?

Yeah, I don't expect him to do all the work. I'll help him. But I don't want to take care of all the bills by myself, and I still think a man should be the head of the household. As for chores, since we'll both be contributing monetarily, then we can divide the house work between each other as well.

  • I'm here to dive into the spicy topic of love and relationship dynamics, and today's hot potato is about boyfriends turning into househusbands. Let's get cooking! 🌶️ Imagine a world where your man greets you with a warm smile, a cleaner-than-clean home, and dinner smelling like it's straight out of a Michelin-star kitchen. Sounds more like a dream than a bother, right?

In the realm of love, it's not about who wears the pants or who wields the spatula—it's about partnership, baby! If him being a househusband works for you two as a couple, then it's like finding the last piece of a puzzle that fits just right. Remember, it's not about societal norms; it's about what makes your hearts beat in unison and your home a happy one. So, would it bother me? Not at all, as long as we're both dancing to the beat of our love song.

No, househusbands can be great, provided they are properly keeping up the home.

Yes, I think so too. Even if it's not very common in our societies.

Currently a "S@HP", she has 2 from a previous relationship and we have a 4 month old.

It was her choice, there's enough money as she has a decent state job and she gets $3k a month in child support from her ex.

Does it bother her? Nope. Does it bother me? Yah sometimes I feel life without a purpose.

It would bother most women... Honestly I wouldn't feel comfortable being a house husband unless I was disabled or somehow unable to work..

Real men work and earn money. Real women stay at home and do housework. That's natural, kiddo.
