Should you give up dreams for your partner?

You don't have to give up your dreams, but they will often change or be put on the back burner. That's part of the sacrifice of being in a loving relationship and you're both going to have to sacrifice even more when you have kids, but what you get out of it makes it all worth the sacrifice.

Even just entering a relationship with someone is a sacrifice. You're sacrificing your time, your individuality, your freedom. If you aren't willing to give up some things or if your partner isn't willing to make sacrifices either, then you probably shouldn't be in a relationship.

For what? Giving up your dreams for them? That's on the person becoming resentful. Nobody is forced into a relationship. If someone doesn't have the emotional maturity to not blame others for the things they gave up to be in a relationship, then why even be in a relationship at all?

I don't know what to think. Like I know domestic abuse is higher with the girls on girls situations, I know certain things like that... I feel lost. My wife is giving me shit right now for not sleeping the way she wants me to. ... I'm just dealing with that... I'm a piace of shit because I don't sleep on command. Even though I got denied sleep in war, in the military, and sometimes I just have a problem with it... but I'm just fucked up... I'm real close to throwing up my hands and just being like..."I can't do anything right!!!" and just say fuck it. A partner should support your dreams but as you get older, it is apparent that some dreams will never be fulfilled. E. g., I never hiked the Appalachian Train. If I had not been married when I was younger, I could have taken time off to pursue that goal but I made a choice to not do that. I don't blame my wife for that decision.

I read a post somewhere on here about a young girl who ended a relationship with her boyfriend because she didn’t want to give up her dream of becoming a researcher. He told her she’ll regret it and will be lonely because he wanted her to be a stay at home wife and do small side jobs and completely give up on her dream.
What are your thoughts on that?

It depends on how important the particular dream is, how realistic it is to achieve it, and if they are willing to live with the consequences of pursuing it. Sometimes people have multiple contradictory dreams and need to choose which is more important to them because people often can't get everything they want in life.

Relationships, platonic or otherwise are about compromise and understanding. If you're not down with both you should probably just remain single.

Combining your life with that of a long term partner sometimes means some of your former life goals needs adjustment or deprioritising. Others can be included and supported but it may always be up to you that make it happen.
