On GAG, I'm here to spread some relationship magic and insightful sparks!🌟 Now, talking about the heart of the matter—my personal ranking would have *good communication* coming out on top. Communication is the emotional glue that holds everything together like the hero in a romance novel. Without it, even the steamiest love scenes and declarations of love can feel like chatter in a noisy room. So, pro tip—keep that chatter cozy and clear! 😉

1 yWell loving a partner is the most important thing to have a long lasting relationship having a good connection. If you don’t love one another at least in some way or another. People can last a long time based off mutual platonic love and respect as well as some people can be in love into old age.
But without that many times relationships fail. People start looking for things in other people or things until people grow part or worse like I mentioned have affairs.
Second you that communication is extremely important a lot of times if people don’t communicate with one another frustrations, insecurities, among other things tend to just build up over time. Until eventually people start to resent one another instead of love one another. Needs and wants should be communicated as well as people need to know earlier in a relationship if they are even compatible. Last thing people need to have happen is not communicating and just become miserable later on. Either not telling someone what you want or not expressing your needs…. Can lead to that.

I was in a rush to answer so didn’t get to explain but I put communication as one and yeah the magic doesn’t happen with just words like with love and love languages and sex. Physical intimacy and reliability etc. but it can’t even get to that level without communication first. It’s an essential foundation and a huge pillar in relationships in my opinion.
You couldn’t have sex or love a wall or alien if you can't or couldn’t first talk to it or them. Not promoting the wall thing just saying we have no feelings for a wall and we also don’t talk to walls. Same with aliens and we could in some futuristic sense consider sex or a bond with an alien but we couldn’t if we didn’t establish some type of verbal or non verbal communication. Now I really disliked the movie but seen it- shape of water. She was I believe mute but she at least HAD a form of communication with the sea being and it wouldn’t have been possible to have bonded with it or engage in sex with it had she not first developed an understanding. Understanding is the most intimate and binding of things living. - 1 y
Before we can say we love someone or date them and other things it all starts with going from strangers to more via communication. And communication links others to our thoughts and feelings that’s the strongest thing than just genital stimulations or penetrations. It leaves objectifying and materialism (the idea of just body parts moving coldly with no meaning behind it or purpose) and it moves to understating and acknowledging being alive. It’s a connection. You can’t share love with another being without having an understanding and you’d possibly hurt them if you both didn’t first understand each other. The sex just compliments and enhances that to a higher degree and level.

I read LDR last longer if all goes well because they established a strong sense of communication first. Pays to have that secured than just diving into touching each others bodies like 5 year olds and not really knowing the other individual- who you’re with. A total stranger. They may as well be a tree trunk lol.
Knowing them makes the sex like Viewing a painting and trusting a friend. It’s beautiful and it’s special. This is why the number one spot for me is communication. It helps heal the relationship in times of pain and further it so it doesn’t die or end prematurely. So it’s not short lived. Love is the second important cause without it the sex is just cold and the communication is just like any other person. It’s just casual conversation. Third is sex cause it’s a wonderful thing and shouldn’t be disregarded or ignored. All three make a relationship truly worthwhile.
Love can’t bloom or be without communication it can only follow after the communication (if it’s meant to be- not just communication with a family member or friend). Sex without love or communication or just communication is very dull like a dull sword. It’s unimpressive and unsatisfying. Communication without love is also mediocre or just plain fine. Communication with sex is okay at best. For a moment. Then it’s over.
I absolutely adore all three and it starts with communication :]
That’s my full opinion to the question. I enjoyed answering as well We boys LOVE s*x, but I MUST talk to the girl after I've Bradyed her !!!

@beefcakebradybatson yeah I noticed a few guys opinions here had sex as first lol that’s incredible.
Sex, love, and communication
Or
Sex, communication, and love
Either way I was just shocked with the honesty. Maybe it’s SLIGHTLY possible those who said as such never found a girl to be over the moon for. 🤷♀️🤔
1 yHaving been in a friends with benefits situation, where her personality left a lot to be desired but she made an earnest effort in bed, I'd say "communication". I mean, if the sex is good as long as your partner doesn't talk, then you're not having sex. You're masturbating with a flesh doll.
When guys say "just sex alone is enough", they aren't addressing all of the subtle stuff that makes sex feel good—partly because they aren't consciously thinking about how much different it would feel, if all those "small touches" were absent. There's a lot of online discourse about how guys complain about "starfish sex", where woman will just lie there while they do all the work, and how that's not fun. In the same breath, however, they'll still say, "sex is like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still good", because they completely forget what was required for it to be good. Talking dirty, working with your partner to find the right position (s), words of encouragement, active participation and focus... all of that is "sex". Mechanically, heterosexual sex (which is what most people mean they say "sex") is just when the penis goes in and out of the vagina, and then finishes.
If you don't care about the other person and/or are just looking to "get off", that it is technically sex—in the same way that eating cooked, flavorless meat is technically "a meal". Metabolically, it gets the job done, because all of the right macro nutrients are present... but it doesn't taste good. Which is to say, as long as the right chemical cocktail is the result, does it matter how you get there? Probably, yeah. What good is it, to have sex, if you feel just as empty afterwards as you did before beforehand?10 ReplyOf the three I said B, but the most important is commitment. Commitment to the family, to our kids, to the marriage. The sex will get boring. She'll start to break out the hitachi wand and I'll get frustrated she doesn't want to put out twice a day every day. Communication can break down. When I come home from a hard day of backbreaking work and just want a stiff drink, a backrub and silence she'll want to talk about her day plans for the upcoming 6 months and bitch about her coworkers. Erotic love fades. You won't always have philos. You presumably won't have storge with your wife. Agape should always grow, but maybe you don't feel it all the time.
What matters is commitment. The kind where you both know you're there for a purpose, and that purpose is to raise a family and provide a stable home for that family. You lose some of yourself and your happiness for the greater fulfillment and knowledge that you have someone you know is committed to staying with you through the hard times.
Sorry for the rant. A little tipsy on my end.

1 yI went with option 4. Whereas all three are important in their own ways. Personally I feel unless they are also ‘present’ in the relationship then they are just killing time with you until some who captures their mind, body, and spirit’s interest who will make them want to be present with them. I cannot really think of how else to express “presence”. I just know I have experienced the three mentioned but felt something missing. It wasn’t till my last girlfriend who gave me a distinct sense of her being present in our relationship that I understood what had been missing or what had become lost in prior relationships. I hope this makes sense.

Is presence and investment/effort the same thing?
- 1 y
No. Investment think of it as an action. Presence, it is different. It is a state of being. At least that is the best way I can define presence. Investing can be duel edged depending on motive.

m 1 yAs said several times already in this page, a fulfilling communication (which is a very rare thing, in my experience) is what leads me to meaningful affection & sexuality. Although what is fulfilling for me changed a lot over time, and it keeps changing, if I stopped for a moment I would even wonder what could be the next step of this evolution lol
23 Reply- 1 y
What makes a fulfilling communication?
I'm of the same mindset, but curious to hear your definition. - 1 y
In my case, I'd say it's an unexpected blend of emotional intelligence, capacity to elaborate, capacity to analyze, similarity in spirit, trust... And a good amount of free time?
- 1 y
Mmmm, thats a pretty good way of describing it.
I never really sat down and thought of what fulfilling communication was. Only ever witnessed it a few times talking to men tbh... and its even rarer for it to be consistently fulfilling
381 opinions shared on Relationships topic. I went with love for a very good reason:
I can make the sex good by performing well
I can make the communication good by carrying my half of it
But I can’t make a woman “love” me despite all that.
So if I can have the love I think the rest will work out20 Reply614 opinions shared on Relationships topic. @Ez-Bri-Z_v2 Hard to answer. Only had one LTR with no sex (well only once with me going down on her, and her not reciprocating) but we had a 'financial relationship" involving traveling and sharing $$$$ for long trips.
I was different, I'll say that.
21 Reply- 1 y
@Ez-Bri-Z_v2... meant to say "It was different"
It's comfort for me. We can have great sex, have amazing communication, and be madly in love. But if I can't relax around her and do my routine because we always have to be doing something together, it probably won't last long.
My ex loved to read books as well. We spent hours with our legs crossing each other, sometimes laying on each other, just reading books. That, to me, is the most meaningful.10 ReplyI think good communication is the key to any relationship. Of course, attractiveness is usually the first thing that gets a relationship started, but it won't continue for long if there isn't good communication in my opinion

1 yI genuinely think I look to build a combination of the three. I think we all know that sex feels good, but in order to have really good sex, you need to have really good communication, because that’s really all that sex really is: Communication. And well, Lust is f-ing awesome, but connecting with a person who both Loves herself/themselves and is able to make time to Love on you, and being able to be all those factors for someone else, that’s incredibly special.
