I can tell you, having been "the woman" that was turned to for emotional support (to be clear, and nothing else), there was no reward. He told her about it, and she lost her mind, and it ended a friendship for 3 years. I thought all I was doing was lending an ear, I didn't tell him to actually do anything about his situation other than he needed to talk to her, and that he needs to make up his own mind because I couldn't do it for him, but that was enough to send her over the edge. Life is hard for all of us sometimes, and if someone is willing to listen to you in your pain, in your stress, and offer something that perhaps you are too ashamed, embarrassed, or to stressed out to let your loved one know, I think if I were on the other end, I'd have to be okay, because what is the alternative? They are just hurting with no release. I've been there, it totally sucks and if it weren't for a few good friends in my life, I wouldn't have made it through.

No. I think its important to have a support system that consists of many people, including romantic relationships, family and friends, etc. If he's with a friend, and it happens to be a girl, and wants to talk about X, why should I have a problem with it? Id be concerned if the subject discussed is something that he can come to me with, and he didn't. I want to be a support for him. He doesn't have to tell me everything, but I would hope that he would feel comfortable enough to come to me with certain things.

If your partner is not making you feel safe/comfortable to open up to then an honest heart to heart conversation needs to be had about this.

Confiding to friends of the opposite gender is usually how affairs start…

Yes. Reason being is because he isn't communicating with me but letting another woman into "our" personal business. And letting another woman bad mouth your partner is the lowest of the low. Only reason I could see talking to a woman about your relationship problems is you want sympathy and for the woman to feel bad for you so she lowers her guard or feels her fucking you somehow is helping you lol. Humans are sneaky and trash I know because I am one lol.

I think I'd be upset but more ar myself for not being what he is needing to feel at peace with. If he doesn't feel like he can trust me, then I'd have done something wrong. I understand everyone needs friends though.
