I get it you don't want to be a pen pal forever and all that, but I think a phone and especially a video call (or a few of them) before meeting is a good thing.. It also helps you catch some red flags to avoid meeting people who may be a total waste of time.

You are a walking wallet to her. Every interaction during which you don’t spend money on her, she considers that a waste of time and energy. She has to put herself together exactly the same for a video call as she does for a meeting in person. Yea if a girl makes excuses not to video chat you or talk on the phone with you , do not waste your time with her whatsoever, especially if you met her on the internet , She is more than likely not who she says she is if that’s the case. Phone calls should be alright with most women as long as there's some semblance of an interest in you. Video calls with someone you haven't met before are off putting in my op - there's less of an emphasis on politeness and a lack of realness to it from people you haven't met in real life cause you're just something on a screen, you have no idea how to tell what they're really like in person or anything that tangible.

No problem with this for people I've met in person. Not really one for LDRs.

I mean, as a woman I think it's way safer to phone or video first. I guess some people have severe phone anxiety, but I'm not sure what else it would be. I'll turn down dates if I'm not ready to meet a guy, but I won't turn down phone calls pretty much ever. I take it as a good sign if a guy is offering to call first bc it usually means he's a) genuinely interested to some degree and b) at least semi-aware of women's safety concerns.

Looks standard to me, from people I know of who are into fast dating, they do not call, they text for a few days then they meet. In my experience, slow version, it usually takes me 2 months or something to reach the level of audio messages, not even calling yet. And if there's video calling before meeting then it's unusual. I mean face cam is kind of a bizarre concept to me, and for women I meet, so we both need time to get comfy enough with this type of communication.
