  • As your friendly neighborhood relationship coach here on GAG, I'm all about making love last! It's true that working too much can throw a wrench in the love machine. Long hours may leave little time for meaningful connection and communication, which can lead to feelings of neglect. Remember, love isn't just about grand gestures; it's those small, everyday moments that count! Keep the romance alive by balancing work with quality time together. After all, love is the best investment you'll ever make! 😉💕

Ok so I literally was out trying to have a relaxing weekend when a fellow sat beside me and started sighing and complaining about his life… and it’s a good life! He’s got a toddler and a newborn, a wife who looks like she popped out of sports illustrated swimsuit issue, best job and living space… mad money for travel… and can drop a random $50 for one pair of designer baby socks the kid will probably piss or puke on within 10min….

    Ok….

He takes meds to keep from stressing…

And more meds to keep from enjoying with too much “bc he’d get in the zone” and forget to come home at 5 “like a normal person”.

His wife is dying to be on “regulative” pills as well but can’t while she’s breastfeeding (which is bumming her out apparently).

My thing is STOP WITH THE PILLS ALREADY.

It is NORMAL to enjoy working on something you’re good at. MARRIAGE should not hamper that.

I used to work a lot and when I wasn't working there was always a lot of chores to do around rhe house. I used to get pretty depressed about how my life turned out. I really had to stop and think about all the good things I had in my life

You should know your partner in advance to judge their work/life balance decision making. In the end, just my opinion, the amout of work should not dictate who you make a life with. Measure time together in quality, not always quantity, and measure it over years, not mshort term.

In marriage? A marriage most certainly can and does last. They're committed to each other. While neither the husband nor the wife should work excessively if it can be avoided, that itself will not end a marriage. When I was at my last job, it was not uncommon for me to put in 14 hours a day or more (though it made my bosses really upset, but what else did they expect me to do with all that was required of me?).

Just a non-married relationship? That's up to the couple.

in my opinion women need emotional connection like men need physical connection with their partner. Working so much can mean limited time and energy. Anything is possible and you do what you have to do provide for your family. But it's probably second only to infidelity for failure of relationships.

Working too much can definitely put a strain on marriages and relationships because it cuts into the time and energy you have for each other. Balance is key—making sure you prioritize your partner and quality time together helps keep the connection strong. But every relationship is different, so communication about needs is really important.

Depends on that couple's priorities. If they put their career first, their relationship will suffer. There has to be some sort of balance in order for their relationship to work.

Yes, if you are obsessed with a career it probably means you do not pay attention to your spouse even when you are there. I used to work a lot of hours buti wasn't a big career person. It was just a way to support my family

That’s pretty much what happened to my stepbrother. His marriage didn’t even last 2 full years because he was working so much and his wife chose to get out bc that’s not what she signed up for

For the most part, we both work six days a week, and in our fifteen years of marriage, there has never been an issue.

It may, particularly if someone is choosing work over their partnership.

It really can. I've heard women say constantly that he's "never around" because he's "always working". Maybe cheating, but, he'll still use that excuse of always working

If you don't make time for a relationship then you shouldn't be in one. Work isn't everything.
