A follow-up to a previous question I'd asked some time ago about what you were taught to expect.
Now I ask this. What did your family (or primary influence) teach you that you need to give in a relationship? What were you taught that you owe?

"Everything." --> I learned too late that gran was saying that for gramp's benefit bc as an elderly couple they'd given and sacrificed everything to build and maintain a flourishing family.
Though gran actually had a few little secrets up her sleeve like a rainy day savings that saved a few family members during massive challenges (hello WWII), "stuff" wasn't important to them. Like gran's wedding dress was cut up into christening gowns for each of her kids. She didn't need to hang on to the dress forever, and she didn't see herself as having an ego worth feeding with memorabilia from her wedding. Because her kids all turned out to be hoarders, we (the grandkids) would always ask why not save the wedding dress for others to wear for good luck? She'd always say, "I had all these kids and grandkids... and a good man. We supported each other's families for more than fifty years. What other memorabilia would I need?" (Wanna laugh? She told me later that she knew she'd have more than one kid and didn't want them fighting over some fucking dress. Go Gran.)
They don't make many women like that anymore... My grandma was about the same level of resourceful.
@SixFootSexy Something about them...

You know i was watching this YouTube video which I would hope was satire but anyway she's cooking a meal for her and her daughter but says she refuses to make her husband anything because he should do that himself. He works all day and can't get a simple meal.

@SixFootSexy got to be satire though but I have encountered them.

I have met women like this before. Sometimes they're very attractive, sometimes they're mid like this woman. Avoid at all costs.
Everything. My mother taught me to give EVERYTHING to any girl or woman who shows the littlest interest in me. Women are God’s gift to men and we should worship them endlessly and without failure.
Since i missed the earlier question and in light of this response, it might not surprise you to know that she also taught me to expect absolutely nothing in return. Men are sh*t and deserve nothing. We are to give everything for nothing in return and be happy about it.

Not so much owe as in keeping a promise I made to her and her family.
I promised to always love, take care of, support, and protect her, no matter what. I don't feel like I owe that, o feel like I promised that, and I never break promises unless I have to.
My family taught me I owed a man obedience, silence, sex and children. That was my sole purpose in life in their eyes.
I grew up in a very dysfunctional home so I really was not taught too much about relationships
