1.3K opinions shared on Relationships topic. Sis, we couldn't possibly put grieving in a box like a timeline.
There's no set time. Some people think that other people who are grieving for the loss of their loved one might say to the grieving person "It's been long enough" but I think that it's cruel to say that to anyone who has lost someone.
I don't think that one day we wake up and say to ourselves "Man, I'm glad that I am finished grieving."
Since each of us is different, we are all going to grieve for as long as it takes. Period.
People shouldn't go around telling anyone that it's time you stop grieving.
I was just just reading about a famous woman who's husband died 18 months ago and she died a few days ago. When the family was asked the reason for her passing, they all said she was grieving so much for her husband and she died of sadness.23 Reply- 1 mo
Wow that's incredibly sad. But you're so right. There is no set time.

Iām also not going to tell you cliche things such as āitāll get better with time.ā If it gets overwhelming, however, it may be time to seek professional help to help walk you through it.

Thanks. I think that might be best.

Iām here on GAG to help you decode feelings, love, loss, all the messy human stuff we stumble through together.
Grief has no timer, no deadline, no ānormal.ā For some it softens after a few months, for others it takes years. It usually shifts from constant pain to waves that hit less often. It doesnāt fully vanish, it just becomes lighter and more manageable. Be gentle with yourself, thatās the only real rule.00 Reply

But no matter what the first thing I do is acknowledge it and then I accept it and there's nothing I can do about it or otherwise I would
I've never let it go It's always in the back of my mind but I know that I have to keep going forward And if I can change something I will
But the hurt and the pain will only last as long as you want it to once you accept it and acknowledge it it makes it easier to move on
And I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason And Basically for the best There will be something good that comes out of it No matter if it's a death Something good always comes from something negative10 Reply4.6K opinions shared on Relationships topic. There isnāt really a set time limit , everyone grieves in their own ways , especially about someone they truly loved and cared about. So far my Mom is the longest I have ever grieved about someone , losing my Mom hit me very hard , and I donāt think I will ever stop grieving over her , in time it has mellowed down some, but I will never forget about her whatsoever, and it still hits me hard from time to time. So donāt let anyone tell you how long you can grieve over someone that you loved and cared about and were close to , itās not their life, itās your life. I did witness some people grieving in very odd ways , which I just ignored and didnāt say anything to offend them , even though it raised some questions of concern , but I kept it to myself.

1 moI think it depends on how close you were to the person or animal that youāre grieving over but sometimes it can take months or can take years. It really depends on how you cope with things. my mom has been gone for 21 years and it still bothers me that she died so early because Iām already older than she was when we lost her to cancer

Itās OK itās been a long time and I think I was grieving for a few months but since I had my young children around as a distraction, thatās probably what got me through it

1 moDepends on you and how you view death and who or what you lost. Are you grieving a death or grieving a lost relationship? It took me 25 years to let go of my younger brothers death.. It took me 11 months to grieve my ex husband.. barely any time for my friends who ODed.. Also no death since my brother has effected me really at all.. and now that I been through heartbreak I doubt any relationship will ever effect me either.

Everyone has their own process when it comes to grieving⦠thereās no exact time because we donāt ever truly stop and grief always changes for each individuals⦠but we can learn to manage grief with the different stages, adjusting to our lives without someone (with assumption of losing someone here?), and learning to accept itās okay to miss them even if theyāre not here anymore. You may also seek support from loved ones and a professional on navigating your grieving process.

u 1 moI can't remember the last time that I grieved more than a few days. But then again, I'm also a man (generally not as emotional) and I've also not experienced the death of a close family member. My grandparents have all been dead for years now and I only saw them two or three times a year.

u 1 moit doesn't end... you just get used to it
I would not focus on "when will it go away"
it shouldn't go away, and it won't either... I think it is just best to cherish the good and great memories, so... you move from the loss, to longing and then that... live with their memories, the ones that bring you a smile, because that's what they really were in your life, and they are still... part of your life too12 Reply- 1 mo
It may not end, but it decays.

1 moit took me awhile for my grandfather. just realizing they're really truly gone takes awhile to get used to if you were close to them. like you turn your head and normally they are there but they aren't. stuff like that can really get you.
im imagining it will take awhile when my folks inevitably pass themselves.

m 1 moIt has varied a lot over time, oscillating between a few days and an entire year. But I don't think time tells the true story about the matter, how much it cripples daily life sounds like a more accurate descriptor than time itself...

1 moGrief never ends. It just get easier with time. And it slowly transforms from pain to nostalgia to the knowledge that the person or thing you have lost has never departed deep in your soul. It's always there.
