Am I wrong for thinking cheating should be illegal for public health?

Don't get me wrong, jealousy or heartbreak are not the reason why I wish cheating was illegal.

I simply don't understand how something as dirty as cheating (and by ''dirty'' I don't mean ''morally bad'', I literally mean ''physically dirty'') is allowed in a civilised world.

Basically, if I choose to have a relationship with someone, I have to accept the risk that I can get a disease from another woman (or from another man, if my partner is bisexual) without the law protecting me and punishing someone who passes on a disease.

Is cheating truly acceptable and normal in a civilised world? I genuinely don't understand why people don't start expecting it to be illegal.

I think being able to have a relationship without being affected by not requested germs should be a human right.

If it were that clear and easy there would already be a law. But it's not.

You can cheat without having sex and you can have sex without cheating. You can get an STD without having sex and you can have sex without getting an STD.

Also cheating is very common and incredibly difficult to prove in many cases. The justice systems are already now over their limit and if you introduce something like this it will only cause more chaos. Also one of the reasons why lying is not illegal in most cases.

There are some real doomsday scenarios here. If it turns out the person who they cheated with had no diseases, it didn't affect "public health" and therefore isn't illegal since they are no threat to public health? If you still think that should be illegal even if they didn't have anything, then public health was never what it was about, it's just a convenient excuse and it really is the morality of cheating that is your actual problem. Knowingly transfering an STD already is illegal just about everywhere.

And how do you enforce this would-be law? Who is to define what cheating is? Who is even to define what a relationship is? And when you're in one, do you have to register it with the government so when the legal proceesings begin they can prove you were in one?

first of all... cheating is subjective

whatever some people consider being cheated on... doesn't necessarily apply to everyone else so... you can't properly "legalize subjective" law is already problematic enough like that, lol

second... we have choice, and the option to make decisions of our own and be selective as well

99% of the times... people pick the person who cheated on them, or accepted them

I wouldn't mind it, and I think there should be consequences if a disease is transmitted. However, there a lot of other things that are causing damage to our society. It seems like we are trying to recreate Sodom and Gomorrah.

You’re not “wrong,” you’re just mixing two things: cheating and public health.
What should be illegal is knowingly spreading STDs, and in many places, it actually is.
But criminalizing cheating itself would turn relationships into police cases.
Cheating is a giant red flag, a breakup reason, not a jail reason.
The real solution is testing, condoms, boundaries, and leaving anyone who disrespects your body like that.
