Why do some women deeply value emotional bonds with men that aren’t romantic?

She'll act nonchalant on the surface, but she will still deeply cares for him. She pretends to resent him, willingly shouldering the blame for the failed relationship, so he can feel justified in moving on and focus on bettering himself never realizing she did it all to shield his heart from further pain.
She’ll even play down her own intelligence, acting less sharp than she really is, just to make him feel smarter and more confident.
