Long distance relationships CAN work, and it is more likely for couples who begin initially near each other, then have the distance forced on them. It is far more unlikely for couples that begin at a distance.

Some people manage to make them work, at least for some length of time, but obviously it has to become real at some point where you both are together. I don't know how people go on with them for years and years, with seemingly no plan to do anything except continue it the way it is. But most seem inevitably overcome with paranoia, doubt, mistrust, etc etc.

What does 'work' mean? If meeting cool people and sharing time with them is 'working' then yes.

If you mean finding a life partner, who knows, unlikely in my experience.

Long-distance CAN work, but only with real effort. Constant communication, trust, emotional intimacy, clear plans to eventually close the distance, and zero games like ghosting or lovebombing. If one person does all the work, it crashes. If both are all in, it can be insanely deep and romantic.
