Why do so many couples seem mismatched in physical attractiveness?

It seems like pretty women match with unattractive men and vice versa. I rarely see couples where both are equally attractive or roughly equal.

Attractiveness can be subjective, so while you may consider them a mismatched couple, others may not. On top of that, looks aren’t everything, and to prioritize attractiveness when picking a partner could eventually turn into you being with the wrong person when or if those looks change over time, as they tend to for everyone.

I have seen a couple where she is a solid 9+ and he is a 3. How did it happen? They started being boyfriend and girlfriend in a small town in 6th Grade. They married later but still young. He was also doing well in his career after marriage.

Then there are good looking couples but where she loses her looks after children.

There can also be couples where she see the amazing person he is and likely had bad experiences in her past with boys/men.

I find the opposite: Couples are usually of similar attractiveness.

But you seem to be your standards are the same as everyone's. This is not the case. I remember a girl I knew I considered to be stunningly beautiful and I mentioned that to someone else who had met her, and his comment was "eh, she got no boobs".

In my experience, they tend to match reasonably closely and when the gap becomes too big relationships tend to fail.

Looks are always a major concern. Trust me I see it all the time walking around in public there has to be some serious arranged marriages still going on based on their looks and makeup.
