How do you react when people call you "sweetheart" "sweetie" "honey" "dear" "pumpkin"

I had a teacher that called me pumpkin a lot.

As I got older I started calling people sweetheart as a joke and now it's a habit.

I'm a cashier..every once in a while, if it's a guy, their face gets red or they give me a funny look. No ones every said anything, but I try to not say it too much anymore.

I was wondering does it make you uncomfortable or anything ? or you don't mind ?

Although it seems harmless, some people will take offense. Like me, I would. You're younger than me and you don't know me, so, I'm not your sweetheart. I wouldn't use that term with strangers at work, if it bothers them, they are likely not to say anything, to avoid a scene, or further embarassment for themselves. Save the pet names for people you know on a personal level. I call good girlfriends sweetheart hun or love and I call my fiance whatever pet name I want to lol. Nothing to corny like pooky bear or anything like that, but the typical ones, love, sweetheart, handsome, babe, baby, sexy, hun, honey etc . . .

Where I'm from people call you "love" and "mate" all the time (tends to be "love" with me). I don't mind it at all. I think it's okay if a girl calls you sweetheart, or someone you know, but it's a bit odd with an older guy. Most of all I think it depends how you say it. I only ever felt a bit odd when a boy said "You're an angel" and called me "Ace". I mean, ace is nice but the angel thing was a bit weird.

Older women can get away wth this, but atyuour age, people will think you are flirting with them, and they will get embarrassed or even agnry sometimes. I'd say cut out this talk at work unless you are friends with the customer.

I think of all of them as terms of endearment. I often refer to people I don't know as "Loaf Face".
