My experience with evil people who say or do or think or contemplate or plan or suggest evil is that in these cases, evil is almost always about power and control.
People want to feel powerful so they hurt others. People want to feel powerful so they try to control others. People don’t forgive because forgiveness makes them feel weak. People hold grudges because grudge holding gives them a feeling of control. People abuse each other because abuse gives them a sense of power.
People hog money and attention and time and praise and social attractiveness because they want to feel powerful. People mock and complain and bad mouth each other because they want to be powerful. People slander and destroy and rob each other because they want to feel powerful.
I find when I ask questions about creative expression and book writing online over 95% of those who respond will invent reasons to mock and criticize my ideas or to tell me I’m stupid or to criticize my character and today I asked a question about book writing and 7 people replied, 6 people pretended to misunderstand my question so that they would have an excuse to mock my question and the remaining 1 person replied in two sentences saying my idea was stupid and not worth answering.
Even in the religion and spirituality question - 98% of the religious people who use the site will mock and belittle and disrespect the question asker and say bad things or invent irrational reasons to judge people.
In almost every case of evil I’ve witnessed, the evil person was motivated by their desire for power.
