What I learned the week of March 14th 2021 - today

I used this image because the devil is chained to the tree by a snake and in the same way the hypocrite is chained to a lifestyle of bitterness and hate by the foils of deception. The issue I am stressing today is the idea of entanglement and entrapment.

I believe that God wants us to choose good and avoid evil and to choose love and avoid corrupted desires and passions, but I do NOT believe that God wants us to rejoice in human virtue or vilify human flaw because human virtue is itself flawed and human flaw is still somewhat worthy of the title of virtue, meaning we should not assign heavenly or satanic identities to unstable human beings because human beings are changing beings who are just as ignorant as they are bad.

So chose love and avoid hate in your behaviour and attitude but do not delight in the virtues of others or condemn their flaws because we are not designed to judge or assess good or evil, we are designed to practice good and to avoid practicing evil, to pursue good values and to shun bad ones, but judging and evaluating others or things beyond our own personal duty or behaviour exceeds the legal responsibilities God gave human beings.

We must obey the law within ourselves and not enforce the law on others since only cops and divinities are allowed that right.

I have struggled with the idea of why it is that evil exists in the world since the Bible says that God is perfect and all knowing. I ask why he would create evil in the first place or even allow us to participate in horrific behavior. I'm not sure if I am right but I think that the only way that any person can be good is if they have the capacity be evil. I wasn't quite sure what that really meant at first but the best way that I can describe it is through an example. So let's say that you have a friend that is married to someone that is beautiful. If you don't sleep with that person because you don't have the chance to it doesn't make you a good person for not doing it. The only way that you could be good is if the chance for you to sleep with that person arises and you refuse. That would mean that the chance to be good would come from the ability to commit sin. Being unable to commit sin would not allow us the opportunity to be good.

I have come to realize that commiting sin is easy and it's not nearly as easy to be a decent human being. I was raised a Baptist but have not really believed in religion for a long time but I find myself questioning many things such as the Bible and what I believe. This is one of the things that I think I am right about but I have so many more questions and at the end of them all I find that I believe that the Bible is a great reference for being what would be considered a good person and I find myself at the same question. With all that I believe to be right in the Bible, is it that the Bible is from God and tells us how to live properly or is the Bible something that was formed over many years that people have observed to create prosperity among people?
