The early Jews regarded kindness to parents as a gift to God and not as a merit based act of social reciprocation that was found on the individualistic virtues and deeds of their domestic caregiver, it was an act of indiscriminate philanthropy and uncalculating charity towards God through hostage domestic service to family and done for the benefit of God and not for the benefit of their maternal or fraternal relations and past parental deeds. The pharisees opposed this jurisprudence because they viewed it as an affront to the reputation and social designation of their parents but Jesus said there was no other basis by which an unfairly treated child could love a rebellious and unruly parent.
