In Islam it's prohibited because (of course) God said so, and we believe the reasons for this is because it leads to many problems In the society, like unwanted children who don't know who their father or even their mother are, and also because it destroys the families If one of the parents cheated on his/her partner, and of course one of the reasons is to protect the people from these diseases that may affect them, so in conclusion it's prohibited in order to maintain the family bonds and protect the society.
Now for the punishment, in Islam the punishment for sex outside marriage for someone who is not married is 100 lashes, but if he's married and cheated then the punishment is death, but it needs a high level of evidence to Implement these punishments, so their must be 4 trustworthy witnesses who saw the exact act of Penetration to Implement the punishment.

Why it is wrong according to the Bible:
It s said in the book of Genesis that a man shall leave father and mother, stick with his wife and be one flesh with her. If a man does not fulfill this criteria, he shouldn't have sex. The same goes for the woman. Furthermore, every sexual act outside of marriage is considered "fornication".

STDs, unwanted pregnancies etc...

The main thing is to recognize that sex outside of "one-man-one-woman" marriage is a sin, and that you need to repent of it, and ask God's forgiveness for doing it.
The ULTIMATE punishment is, of course, eternity in the Lake Of Fire, for not becoming Saved/Born Again. Not simply for the sins we committed earlier in our lives.I think nobody know about every Religion.
I'm Muslim I can only tell Islamic perspective.
