I never liked that term, unless it was used as a threat, I suppose. My feeling is that we should have a very healthy respect for God and His ways.
I guess, fear the wrath of God might promote that healthy respect but I also believe that because He knows we are not perfect, we're going to make mistakes so there isn't a hard edge to things.
Follow the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule and the world will be a better place.
Considering that humanity is still suffering the consequences of 2 people eating fruit, anyone who really believes all of this is real should indeed fear this extremely vengeful and unforgiving god.

Yup. That's what was wanted by the people who concocted this religion and it's dogma up. Total obedience of the ignorant & gullible through fear & intimidation.
I always interpreted it in the sense of knowing that God is very very powerful, and he can use that power against you if you don't obey his rules, he can kill you without any effort, fearful isn't it?
Just brain washing made up nonsense to try to force religious people to be good.

It literally means you respect gods rules because he can kill you. Its might makes right but he also has logic for why he's right. He just knows that force is always the bottom line. Its why the government needs people with guns to be respected

I think it’s more of a respectfulness of His power and who He is.

Not everyone that says "Lord Lord" will enter the Kingdom of Heaven
This sounds like a question for your local priest or clergyman. I wouldn't trust a panel of people to give me advice on this, seems a bit naive
I don't know but I imagine he's not meant to be feared and instead loved. ┐( ’v’)┌
Fear of god is like fear of the boogeyman. Neither exists. Fear members of your own species instead
I wouldn’t want a god that required me to fear him even his bad side wtf
God is holy and its because of our tresspasses against him that we should fear him.

Fear, maybe from God but also the church so they get more money. If ya don't give them the forceful donation they threaten hell on you.

Fear is good, its the beginning or wisdom and living in a right relationship with God through Jesus.
God says don't be afraid many times, i chose to be confident in my faith and revere God
Fearing God it's like fearing Donkey Kong... why would you be afraid of a fictional character?
Yes. Rule through fear, not love, this leaves less room for doubt. All great tyrants know this.
You are supposed to fear getting on the wrong side of Him.
Isn't that how conventional religion works? Control via fear and demoralization?
If you are that much connected.…you are really into it these days
