+1 yThat does not make a lot of sense scientifically speaking since a Church is usually actually safer than a restaurant aince the building is bigger, has high ceilings and extra space to spread people out, so that does not make sense for a restaurant to be open, but not a church. Bus and train service actually is higher risk than a church since there is limited space. The number one contributor at my local hospital to covid actually comes from Taverns and bars.
Restaurants are another high risk item since the mask is taken off to eat. Churches can also do the same measures as restaurants to create gaps and other preventive measures. At hospitals we see people survive from the worst outcomes when people get prayed for and if that works then we should not stop it from happening, but we can create solutions to decrease risks of mass spreader events.40 Reply

+1 yChurches that stayed open during outbreaks of the Black Death (in Europe and Asia) have closed. Here in the US, churches that were open during outbreaks of smallpox have closed. This, in spite of the fact that it's clearly established by now that herd immunity is the only way out of these epidemics. I don't WANT to think that this part of some concerted effort to destroy traditional systems of religion and push the idea of the State as god, but it's getting harder and harder not to.

Yep 100%. That is the far left and the Democrats trying to control us. However it doesn't work because we get to walk the online services and in the area I'm in all the churches are back to service. The only reason I watch it online and still associate via the phone with others from church is because my mom has COPD and heart disease from her father smoking and so forth through growing up she has a hard time breathing and some other issues and she's in her early seventies and I do not want to be around other people that close that I could catch anything even though I have an amazing immune system. And end up giving it to her which would completely end her so
10 ReplyYes - if distancing & closures are based on science, then particular types of gathering places — such as churches — shouldn’t be arbitrarily picked and not allowed.
In general, scientific reasons & standards for masking, distancing, and other restrictions (including closures) should be identified.
And when people/gatherings & buildings meet/exceed these standards (or when/“ & where there are no valid reasons for restrictions), then these restrictions/closures should not be enacted (or if previous mandated, should be lifted/stopped).10 Reply
+1 yLaws aside, going to any crowded place during a pandemic is a risk, the more crowded the bigger the risk. Also if you are at a church I envision the possibility of people talking or singing (hopefully with masks) or shaking hands, all those things can expose further transmission of germs and particles. There are many other outlets for spirituality including virtual ceremonies, churches and other forms of gathering and activities that can also allow people to explore their spirituality while keeping themselves and others safe. I don't see churches as being an exception to any other type of building or structure that has restrictions. Scientifically, it has the same risks.
11 ReplyWell if it is happening like the entertainment places which are more busy like Restaurants, Malls and all are open then they should open religious places too. But if all the places like Restaurants and Malls are closed due to covid then religious places should be closed too. It's kinda weird that where there are more people there is no restrictions but where less people come, there people aren't allowed.

+1 yI think they should be able to, so long as other venues are open. Makes no sense to say restaurants, clubs, bars, stores and convention centers can be open but churches can't.
That is religious discrimination.
If it is all shutdown, then I'm fine with that... if nothing is open.11 Reply- 714 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.
u +1 yMy church is open (it was closed only for about two months last year, and we provided services by live-streaming on YT during that time and since then,) masks are required only for those who are unvaccinated, we have fellowship time for the congregation after service, and we are hosting a benefit concert on Monday night.
I am president of the congregation and I can close the church if the pandemic flares up again. I review CDC statistics for my county almost every day but we are nowhere close to needing to close the church.
I am quite grateful for Gov. Ron DeSantis and the great state of Florida!14 Reply- +1 y
We have several physicians in our congregation who give us their opinions on the safety of in person worship and the dvsability of mask requirements.. I also benefit from the fact that I am in Duval County, Florida and our pandemic metrics are far lower than the national average.
- +1 y
Go Florida! But some of our people don’t understand the need for in person fellowship at any level. Mental health suffers terribly from this
- +1 y
@Charliefretz329 Absolutely!
+1 yNo, I don't think it's wrong that people can't go to church. I try to see the positive in anything yes sometimes uts harder said than done. But look at it this way. If your church is shutdown this could give you the opportunity to do something on your own.
Maybe read the Bible yourself do some Bible study maybe you could zoom with your friends and discuss a topic from the Bible.
There is so much you can do, you don't have to let that stop you from spending time with God it doesn't always have be inside of a church.12 Reply- +1 y
The reason that it is closed is because it's not classified as essential you are not gonna starve, it's not gonna effect your livelihood by not attending church. It's not a. persknal attack on church. Although I do see why people are upset. But the sole purpose for church is for gathering for prayer and reading the Bible which spreads the virus.
606 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. Makes me happy to see churches closed for any reason. I do not agree morally with places of worship, people have the right to their own religious freedom within there home I say.
But anywhere else it's just causing war's and has been doing since forever even got there so called messiah killed so if that isn't anything to go by I don't know what is.
Closing things due to covid is a different issue though and if it was something else i would probably disagree. People can risk going there themselves if they get covid that's there own fault for going is how i would answer it.
There is much history of viruses and people who have ignored it that ended up in dire results but that choice is there's.
Back in Jesus's time they would of just killed people infected and burnt belongings so that's a fun progress we have made now people can complain about such a trivial thing instead of been dead.12 ReplyChristian hypocrites need to read the Book of Leviticus and the quarantine laws found in that book.
Under the Old Testament law, if you had a disease, you were exiled from the city until you could prove you were no longer sick. They tested you every seven days to see whether the illness was cured or not, and then to be safe you're exiled another seven days after the symptoms are no longer apparent. Nostradamus also cured the Black Death in several cities by using the methods prescribed for "Leprosy" in the Book of Leviticus.03 Reply- 4.5K opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.

And tonight a lot of NBA teams will have their arenas packed with people yelling and screaming there too without mask.27 Reply- +1 y

505 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. The government has no business closing churches or banning free association, especially over this deliberately overblown covid thing. It is plainly obvious that the government's motive has nothing to do with protecting people's health.
The goal is to terrorize the public, push the vaksine, and impose dictatorship. Fuck that.
Fortunately, there are lots of people who see what's going on and refuse to comply.20 Reply- 589 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.
+1 yYou ARE the church and you can "go to" church and meet up with people anytime you want, start your own church, and build your own building once it grows so much. That's how it all started... Emperor of Rome wasn't involved at the time.
It's up to the church leaders who have power over those locks, or should be.
Mine is open, but I just heard quite a few people have covid, were mild cases so far. What I had nearly killed me. So, that's a tough call... get close to others and spread the illness and accept the inevitable, or avoid it.
If the theory is right that new strains aren't as harmful... then we are ok. If that's wrong and a new strain comes along many times worse, were gonna pay.00 Reply This is an interesting question. So let's look at it from a "Religious" point of view.
Short answer: Yes (or should be)
Why?
Throughout time, churches are considered "Holy". It would then stand to reason that anyone that comes into a church would / should be protected from any ailment (Deuteronomy 7:15 )
Very similar to communion (Catholics), The chalice is blessed, therefore any that drinks from the cup, shall be safe from even a covid/aids/std person. Failure to have faith in this, is to disbelieve the whole ritual, which in turn makes followers believe the church is holy- moot
So going to church, afraid that you will get sick to a non-mask wearing not-jabber, is to lack faith in your God that it will protect you. The church is "holy".
In short, you either believe in God and that God will definitely protect you while you are in his house or you don't. Man made ailment are no match for your God. Or are they? :-)10 Reply- 335 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.

11 Reply It is not just wrong, here in Australia it is unconstitutional.
Section 116 of the Australian Constitution is almost word for word the freedom of religion portion of the US First Amendment.
Restriction on the practice of any religion is straight out prohibited.11 Reply- +1 y
Australian Constitution, Section 116:
"The Commonwealth shall not make any law for establishing any religion, or for imposing any religious observance, or for prohibiting the free exercise of any religion, and no religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust under the Commonwealth."
Self evidently, any of the tyrannical Covid measures that infringe upon freedom of worship etc. are unconstitutional.

u +1 yMy church has been open for a year and a half now. And yes, it is wrong that people have been, and still are in some places, deprived of their obligations to God.
11 Reply As the membership in churches ages, the numbers of very old people (who are most susceptible to covid) is increasing, so many of them close to protect those people. If they were open many might feel they are obligated to attend. By closing the church and making online services available, the churches are protecting them.

+1 yDuring the peak of the pandemic, most churches had virtual services online s you could still "go to church".
In the US, many churches are back open for regular business. Most require masks and try to keep social distancing, pretty much the same as many businesses, stores and restaurants.11 Reply Super religious people (like devout Christians) may see it as wrong but I personally don't have a problem with it. The main concern should be whether it's safe for people to go. If they decide to stay open, then they should follow covid rules like requiring people to wear masks.
11 ReplyI’m in Seattle (where this basically all started in the US), and all the churches are open. Some require masks, since don’t. But really, who cares about our opinions about this. EVERYONE has an opinion, and the civilians who are the most opinionated are often the most ignorant and uneducated and don’t know their ass from their elbow.
00 ReplyNah, imagine anyone so self centred to think that one, they need to go to a church to show their faith, and that they think their religion is above others and their health...

@SnakeBoop but are you okay with abortion clinics remaining opened then?
- +1 y
nah but my point would be that people are coming into contact with people anyways and if that's okay then church should be okay too. What church means to you is different from a strong believer. And I wonder how many died during the pandemic from suicides and depressions that could have gotten help from local church leaders and friends of the community. In my area our shrinks are all booked up and dont take clients. Many turn to God for help. But I brought up abortion for a good reason despite being pro life. You said it, "pro choice" but are you really if you dont allow people their CHOICE to go to church?

10 ReplyI think they should be open if the rest of things are open and closed if the rest of things are closed. very simple.
11 ReplyIf a church decides to close over covid then nobody is missing anything cause the pastor is probably always preaching from a materialistic non-spiritual point of view anyhow. They're too lazy to setup tents and meet outside too.
00 ReplyNo the same rules should apply indepent of what type of gathering it is. No one stops you from going to church you just can't do it all at the same time.
03 ReplyThey shouldn't prevent people from going to church during COVID time. So, it's fine going to a restaurant and not go to church and other businesses? Sounds pretty odd, isn't it?
