Always wondered that myself. I grew up in an extended family who followed Catholicism. When I was a child I really enjoyed being involved with the church. Volunteered at charity events, dinners, was an altar boy etc. I lived my life the way I thought God wanted me to. I received an unbelievable amount of blessings and essentially was rewarded with everything I had ever asked for. I had a successful business that nearly made me a millionaire for roughly 20 years, I joined a successful band and played music I loved all over the world and was rewarded financially as well. I married my soulmate of 47 years and had two of the most beautiful little girls I could ever have imagined. It took 47 years of hard work, strong faith and personal charity to receive the many blessings I mentioned. However…it only takes a moment or two to lose everything you have and own…as if it never existed.
For some unknown reason I was the victim of a horrific tractor trailer accident and was clinically dead for about one minute. It took me almost a year to climb back up into a big truck but I did. The event changed my life dramatically and I believe it changed my outlook on life and redefined what was important to me. My wife turned to alcoholism and began abusing my oldest daughter. I turned to drugs and around the same time met a wonderful girl online. She was everything I needed at that time and we began a long distance relationship while my wife and I divorced. This online perfect girl ended up stealing and extorting $300,000 from me and left me destitute with my once flawless credit now ruined. The house sale didn’t yield what we expected, my money was gone and I lost my business. I was forced to sell all of my music equipment to simply pay the bills that were now all outstanding. I became homeless in 2021 and had nothing. A year later now I am still struggling to crawl out of this hole. So far my outlook has not been encouraging. I often wish I would go to sleep and never wake up. Because my troubles never cease and my existence has only brought my parents, children and friends nothing but aggravation, heartache and burdensome. I’ve tried several times to inject myself with a lethal speedball but it never works. I have such a high tolerance for these drugs that it would take an airline load to kill me.
So why has God punished me? I’ve asked that question a million times. Why me when I’ve been such an amazing son, friend, dad who developed all of his talents and only wanted to see his daughters live an easier life than I. Why now at nearly 50 years old when the devastation of these events couldn’t be more destructive to my future? I don’t have enough time now to recover. Why has God done this? Well…my faith isn’t what it used to be if it even exists at all. I believe as Lacy VanZant does after his son Ronnie, leader of Lynyrd Skynyrd, had his life cut short in a plane crash. His father stated that “God is a jealous God”. When He sees certain people succeeding beyond imagination, achieving worldwide success, creating a loving and God fearing family…. He becomes jealous and takes it all away in the snap of a finger and without regard.
So if there is a so called God…. prove yourself and exercise your divine power. Let me die tonight…I dare you, and I beg you.13 Reply- +1 y
Hi, I'm sorry about what you went through. But that was a moment of trials and temptations. Jesus said in this world there will be tribulations. But you abandoned your faith under the weight of these trials. I earnestly pray you find your faith again. This world is temporary. What happens after is eternal. Think about it. Cheers.

Many reasons:
● punishments for sins
● test of character
● chipping off the rough spots alla "into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver" (Zechariah 13:9)
● etc.
The world is fallen, and a battlefield between the Lord יהוה ("YHVH"), who is מלך העולם ("Melech haOlam"; "MEH-lek hah-oh-LAM"; n.「King of the Universe」), & insurrectionist ("haSatan"; "hah-sah-TAN"; n. 「the Adversary」) as acting ὁ ἄρχων τοῦ κόσμου τούτου ("ho arkhōn tou kosmou toutou"; n.「Ruler/Prince/Magistrate/Governor of the world」) in the Greek (considered the original language of the New Testament by Western denominations) or the ܐܪܟܘܢܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܗܢܐ ("arkuna d'alma hana"; 「Ruler/Magistrate/Captain of this world/universe」) in the Syriac Aramaic (considered the original by indigenous Middle Eastern denominations). That said, collateral-damage is to be expected.
Likewise, ever had "bad" things happen… only to have harm turn into an asset? Had my older-sister's late-2019 plans of getting a job in and moving to New York worked-out as she wanted it, she would have lost her job & income in the heart of the COVID-pandemic while tied tied to N. Y.-level rent-payments, all alone from us during the worst of her marrital-collapse's emotionally-ruthless aftermath. She's suicidal (by the way), so what could have happened had "good" things happened to her?00 Reply
+1 yI think the question is wrong. God doesn't make or cause suffering. It is the natural state of the world we live in that poses two options. We can choose as humanity to live in goodness, help each other, and do away with suffering, or, as humanity to live selfishly and impose injustice onto each other. God is not the factor when people make these every day factors. The spiritual world can and do influence the physical realities. The cause of suffering is rooted in something much darker and evil which wants to impart total control over humanity and often makes its appearance as something positive to hide its true terrible intentions (take Trudeau for example). The anti-christ is supposed to meet his profile. Goodness and righteousness presents itself clearly and to everyone, but it is the narrow and harder road because we have to battle against human nature. Suffering is the nature of the world we live in. It is what helps us make choices based on cause and effect. We can choose to respond with bitterness and fall into darkness. Or we can choose to stand tall and overcome our suffering to attain something much better for our lives. That goodness cannot be reached without the will and determination to make it happen. God wants the best for us and continuously reaches out and guides the way. It is a soul knowledge. It is like digging your way out of a grave. But you could also choose to stay in the grave and return to the dust whence you came.

Take someone who is gluttonous & envious. Two of you Christians seven sins. The sort who embody the old "keep up with the jones" mindset. Their neighbors buy a new car so they have to buy a bigger more expensive new car. They are gluttonous because they have the money to afford that car. And envious because they did what they did.
That person loses their job. They lose that fancy new car they were bragging to all the neighbors and friends about. That is god's way of teaching them to be humble.10 Reply

Suffering is a part of life, just as joy is.
In fact, you'll note that nearly everything about the world - and the universe - is kind of binary, or has an opposite. You can't have light without darkness, you can't have health without sickness, you can't have happiness without sadness, you can't have success without failure, etc. Everyone experiences both the good and the bad - the difference is HOW you deal with that.
People who tend to be successful and happy EXPECT to have problems and challenges and failures from time to time, but don't take that personally and don't see those things as the person being a failure - it's just a hurdle to learn to get past. People who are unhappy tend to focus on their problems and failures and wallow in self-pity about it, or take it as if the universe has singled them out for a personal attack. They tend to give up or turn to destructive behavior (drinking, drugs, crime, etc.) to "escape" from the reality they don't want to face.
And, look: there's yet another example of two opposites.
You can't change the nature of the universe - none of us can. All you can change is how you handle the nature of the universe. You can have kind of the "athlete attitude" where you see those things as challenges that ultimately make you better and stronger, or you can give up and declare that you've been defeated and wallow in your misery. You're the only one who can make that choice for YOUR life.10 Reply
+1 ylife itself is a hard road and sometimes very painful. Lack of love for each other is part of the the reason we have the problems we do, this fact alone has no need for answer of why. Some don’t even know what love is and that’s actually very sad. If people just loved each other more then most of the worlds problems would be solved. So as you look on to the lovelessness of the world witness for yourself what a world without any respect for God, unbelieving, heaters of God, Because this is what a lack of God looks like. No love, only lookout for self.
here is what the Bible says:
to those who put their trust in Jesus. You are like a sword being sharpened through pain and suffering, because from it God will make you stronger after you have gone through the fire and come out with victory. Just like an athlete you are train for battle, so you can help others to get through it as well.
Romand 5:3-5
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
life is battle and some dont even know we are at war with demons. But this is not a physical war, this is a spiritual battle.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”10 Reply861 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. God, In and Through Christ Jesus, makes each fallen and depraved individual righteous through Jesus’ work on the Cross. God is conforming us to the Image of His Son.
For those who know Jesus the Christ as Savior and Lord, we know that a Sovereign, Creator, Loving, Judging, Wrathful, and Good God has us under His care. If you obey you will be Blessed and if you disobey then you will be Cursed.
—The difference for Christian is that a sinless lamb of God lived, died, buried, and rose to defeat Sin and Disobedience, therefore, ultimately Curse is Blessing in that we are being conformed to the Son of God and will ultimately be glorified with God as Sons and Daughters of God.
—If one is without Jesus as Lord and Savior then I know they are without a spiritual indwelling that walks, talks, and move through you and others who are connected to you. Those without the Holy Spirit are incapable of reconciling “Suffering” as Blessing in Love.12 Reply- +1 y
Ultimately, Suffering is of man as all are made by a Creator God. And the Contractual commitment is…You are mine…world is mine…All is mine AND I want it to be enjoyed and used by you, HOWEVER, Obey my laws a and statutes and be Blessed or disobey and be Cursed…glorify your Creator God is your primary Job. Along with knowledge of good/evil, right/wrong, and conscious, I have also given you the Freedom to Choose or Choose Not My laws and statutes. I AM THAT I AM but even so I will not force you to do that in which you do not want to do. And so man chooses Suffering..,
- +1 y
Man chooses Not the thing before Him…even in the not choosing, ignoring or “Ill decide later”…. a Determining is made. At the crux of that Determination is Choice. To both choose the Good and Not Choosing the Good…. in either Determination there is Choice. Man chooses his Sufferings.
—Now in my case, I too both suffer and are rewarded by God and the World for both Good and Not Good CHOICES that I make. Difference being that ultimately In Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord my sufferings are Blessings…my Trials serve as Blessing as I am Sovereignly ASSURED heaven,
—Simultaneously, I am being refined…Godly heat is applied burning off the impurities so that I can be presented Righteous, through Jesus the Christ’s Work, and Holy before a Holy God.
—Without a knowledge of the Christian God, one can never grasp the Purpose, Form, and/or Function of Trials in one’s life. If one’s worldview goes no further than Self THEN the things of God are nonsensical, tyrannical, and seem to be there to unnecessarily restrict and disrupt fun 🤩.
—But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he can not understand them, because they are spiritually discerned (1Corinthians 2:14).-And the church at Corinth was a wide open joint at times…..

A god who claims to have drowned a planet and most everything and everyone on it, made an entire nation suffer because he stopped its ruler from doing what he was originally going to do, killed a man for simply dropping a box he was carrying, destroyed cities with meteorites because they weren't friendly enough, told a man to kill his child but at the end was like ha! Kidding!, sent his own child to die horribly etc., no shit he's going to make his servants suffer. He either doesn't care or he's simply a madman

+1 yPerhaps it's a little harsh to put, but let me explain my thinking.
God cannot exist in the way we teach (at least the Christian version) he cannot be all loving, all knowing and all powerful, yet innocent children suffer. If he exists and has the knowledge and power to solve some of the horrendous ways children die (for one thing), he is not worthy of my worship. If he has the knowledge and love but not the power, why would I worship? And if he has the power and the love, but not the knowledge, then why not come down and see for himself. Thus once again, not worthy of my worship.00 Reply468 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. There's something wrong with an omnipotent being that considers it's children to be servants and demands worship.
That's how a greedy, narcissistic human king treats his vassals.
If I believed in the Judeo-Christian-Islamic god, I'd say he is pretty worthless. And if he needs religions, churches, holy books, and humans to tell other humans what he wants, he's an idiot. I don't trust any of those things. Why doesn't he just make himself known and tell people himself instead of playing mind games?00 Reply- 373 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.
+1 yYou can only reconcile with that question if you believe in the life hereafter and what it really means to be here on Earth.
This life here is a test. It is a temporary phase where God tests you and the higher you are in righteousness, the more and harder he tests you and that keeps taking you higher and higher and closer to God for a reward in the real eternal life.
We look at it from another angle snd often shiver at the thought that if our life is perfect and all golden over here, sometbing must be wrong. Could that mean all our mosery os written for the eternal hereafter? Yikes.13 Reply- +1 y
@JosyJosy its a horrific situation. Nobody should wish that happen to any other human of any ethnicity or faith (or "no faith" ). Neither to the child nor to their parent (s).
The only consolation you can take is that if the child was a minor and not old enough to even understand heaven and hell; or sinful wrong from right.. child will not face those tough questions by God on judgement day. Most likely, the child is going straight to heaven.
Now this may be a bit debatable with some faiths like Christianity because I think they take it in the reverse. For them, human is born sinful. I am not a Christian so I am not an expert on that. I may even be wrong
+1 y99% of the time our problems are the consequences of our own bad actions. Everyone always putting the blame on God instead of checking themselves. Other times it is to test you and humble you when you have become heedless. Suffering isn't necessarily a bad thing.

10 Reply If you are a Christian you should know that God is not concerned with material things. Jesus christ promises things in the father's kingdom, not in the material world, he does not free you from material suffering. Indeed the gospel shows how suffering and material deprivation are the way to salvation.
If you want to free yourself from mental suffering, practice Buddhism. If you want to reduce material suffering, study.11 Reply- +1 y
Actually Buddhism done properly isn't to free yourself from mental suffering per se. Unfortunately, in many ways, the people who introduced Buddhism to the west - the "gurus" - only taught in the west because in their home countries / the east their ideology wasn't exactly proper

Religious followers use to think that diseases were caused by "demons." As a result, they tortured and murdered people out of absolute ignorance. Fortunately science and reason has pulled us out of the dark ages. As science continues to advance, we will have more answers.

No that’s just a survival of the fittest and natural selection.
God also has everyone’s last day on earth written out. So basically there HAS to be naturally disaster, disease, and war. So that your life may end when it’s supposed to.
There’s people on this earth that live 100 years, and there’s those who life 12 years or less.
