I wanna know more about christianity?

Question

Hello everyone! Since I've started to live in Poland, I'm interested in christianity. When I visit some churchs I feel myself very good, peaceful. as if a hand keeps me and says me 'stay here!'. That's really my feelings. And I wanna learn more things about that. But I don't any christian friend in Poland. Who can give me information about that. I feel ashamed when I go to church. I don't know who to contact or what to say. Help me! Thank you in advance... God bless you.

As a broad baseline (excuse me if this is stuff you already know; I don't know how much information you have), Christianity is something of a radical separatist sect of Judaism, centered around the belief that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah foretold in Jewish prophecy, and that He will someday return in glory and power at the end of the world. Beyond that, the details tend to vary hugely by sect- Christianity got started as an underground cult within the Roman empire, and after His death and resurrection, Jesus sent His followers out to spread the word to every corner of the world. Because the message sent was very basic, and because it often didn't meet a better reception under local governments than it had under the Romans, many different groups arose, preaching slightly different versions of the message, and all of them insisting that THEIRS is the one and only correct way (most have since calmed down a little).

Now, if you're in Poland, it's overwhelmingly likely that your local church is of the Roman Catholic flavor. Fortunately, I can tell you quite a bit about them (if it's one of the other Orthodox branches, I'll know less; ditto if it's a Protestant one).

Your first step should be to do a little research on your local parish; they probably have a program for people in just your position, who are looking to find out more about the Church. Depending on the details, this may be the initiation program that converts go through, but don't worry if you're not ready to take that step, and are just looking to learn more; they're not going to drag you off and baptize you right away. There are lots of intervening steps first. If the parish is decently sized, it probably has a website where you can find out more specific information. It should at least steer you in the direction of someone to talk with about learning more. If there isn't a website, then the church (the physical building, I mean) will likely have a bulletin board, or some other similar center of social interaction, with more information about groups and meetings.

Catholic churches in the States often have attached schools; the people there could probably also help you, at least in terms of who to ask. If you're really unable to find anything, then you can always just ask the priest- after Catholic services, the parishioners often briefly congregate outside the church doors, and you'll usually see the priest mingling; it's usually for nothing longer than a handshake and a "Good sermon, Father", but most will be happy to help if you tell them you're a newcomer to the area, looking for information about the Church. I don't know if other branches have similar gatherings, but it'd make sense; Masses are often a social event (or an opportunity for one, at least) as much as a religious one.

Now, within the Orthodox Church (every branch, as far as I know), priests are referred to with the title "Father"; Protestant sects tend to prefer "Reverend"- if you goof it up, you shouldn't face anything worse than a gentle correction at worst, especially if you make it clear you're just new, and meant no offense, but unfortunately, being religious doesn't make people immune to being jerks; there's always a chance someone'll be looking to take something the wrong way. Remember that Christianity is about the worship of an all-seeing god, who sees and knows the contents of your heart; your efforts and intentions matter far more than minor doctrinal differences. Humans, even Christians, don't have that advantage, and sometimes get hung up on things like titles and debates about how many nails Jesus was crucified with.

Avoid the Catholic church at all cost and beware of false churches that teach a water down gospel.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is one is a sinner and needs to come to the feet of Jesus Christ in repentance of sins for salvation and be baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as Jesus commanded.
