How do we avoid the judgment that fell on the rich man in the story of Lazarus?

My friend said non religious people perfect their skills at winning the earthly life but religious people also focus on the heavenly life after this life. I always think I don’t want to have all money and joy on earth and then die and not go to heaven. But it does not seem smart to purposely ruin your life so you can go to heaven.

I think the point of the story is that the rich man, and most rich people, are so attached to their wealth that they tend to not do what is right if that means losing their wealth. It is not wealth that is bad per se, but loving it so much that one cannot do the right thing if it requires sacrifice.

We realize there is no final judgment. Most wealthy people live comfortable lives, and on average they live longer than people who are not as fortunate.
