How can one know if their religion is the true one since there are over 4000 ?

Every person claims their religion to be true, how they know if theirs is the right one between over 4000+ religions? + how come they know if their religion is just "something" because of where they were born or what influenced (a. k. a brainwashed) them during childhood. would muslims really be muslims if they were raised in a committed christian family, vice versa for all other religions.

I answered this exact question just yesterday.

In order to do that, we need to ask two separate sets of questions. The first set sets the stage for the second.

FIRST SET

ORIGIN - Who established the religion, when, where, how, and why?

OBJECT - What do adherents hope to obtain? Why must they obtain it and how? What aids to the faithful have in their pursuit of the object? What do they fear losing (this is a valid and an important question)? What is the relationship between the origin and the object?

SECOND SET

HISTORY - Has it flourished and if so, how? What has it suffered and overcome - from both without and within - and again, how? Also important: WHY? What influence does it have on the world and its history? What role does the object play? What was the cultural setting and what were the languages and customs from that time?

LEADERSHIP - What is the role of the leadership in respect to the object? Where do they get their authority and how is it to be exercised? Is there a consistent line of leadership and how is it maintained?

CLARITY - What does it teach about the object, how are the doctrines preserved, and how are they clarified and taught? What demands does it make of adherents? How is the object different from that of other religions and beliefs? What texts and traditions support and surround the doctrines?

UNITY AND OUTREACH - Is the religion restricted to one people, tribe, or culture or is it meant to transcend political, cultural, and geographic boundaries? And again, how does it relate to the object?

Consequently, this last part is why the argument of "if you were born in x-country or region, you would likely have been raised as y-religion" is an extraordinarily weak argument.

Also, I'll need to know how the moral and spiritual formation of a child is considered "brainwashing".

These questions find the most satisfactory responses in the traditional Catholic faith. The true religion ought to be one whose aim is to not only redeem, but glorify our fallen human nature in the life to come, rather than affirm and encourage. It should be to make man more relatable to God, rather than the other way around (Christ already did so by becoming one of us).

1, check if it convinced many followers. all thousands but 3 didn't convince millions of followers.

so not strong evidence.

2 muslims switched to christian despite muslim education.

3, from the religions that have hundreds of millions, check did they spread by convincing or by fear like sword conquest or inquisition. if so, even many not convinced due to truth but by fear. and less followers those thousands not convince many, because not true.

only one remains by convinced and it has many branches to find where you fit.
