Why are so many christians on this forum threatened by someone being atheist?

It's sad really. People believe in only one god and try to convince everyone there is only one true god. If I had to guess, I'd say the reason people are threatened is because they fear someone who is atheist is going to prove them wrong. The truth is, nobody knows 100% if there is a god. We are taught to believe in certain things, but what we're taught lacks proof.

I'm a writer, so fact is more important than just taking someone's word for something. I' have health issues and have had plenty of near-death experiences, and I've never had a religious revelation... and I'm pretty open minded also.

There's a whole universe out there, and earth certainly isn't the only planet with life, and life on other planets are not going to have the same belief as earthlings.

There is nothing wrong with being atheist. I have no idea what I believe, and I'm staying like that. Over thousands of years, there have been wars over religion, Christianity being one of them. One day I posted an option on here about that and someone actually asked me, "What do you mean 'Wars because of Christianity'?" I can't remember what I said in response, but yes, people have died because of religion. The roman catholic war is a perfect example, as well as countless numbers of other wars.

Another thing I noticed, people often fear what they don't understand, and they use religion as a crutch. They figure since they're bad people, there's some man in the sky that will forgive them for all the horrible shit they've done to people. My parents were religious people, and I was abused as a result of it. I think people should have the right to choose what they believe in. We're on our own in this world. I've worked hard to get where I'm at, and God didn't help me. I did all the work! So, I get your frustration with people!

I wouldn't worry about them, most don’t even know the definition of an atheist - someone who doesn’t believe in a god / gods.

Hi, as a muslim, I agree with you on the concept of "your god" being wrong. Humans have named deities and demigods up, since satan's desired objective is polytheism for mankind so they end up in Hell eternally for it. Although God send every nation a Messenger to Monotheism, over time it was corrupted into polytheism for the aforementioned reason. Since the confusion among humans and your god or this god and that God. People are often reactive, regardless of their stance. Some also, are sincere and aren't trying to be annoying.

Imagine if you genuinely love people, and something leads you to believe that a person you know will probably go to Hell, a place of ultimate suffering. There is a sympathetic temptation to keep that from happening.

It's why we watch out for other people, the kind of "Be careful, there's a hazard over there." kind of warnings. If you care about others, it goes against your nature to just let them wander into what you see as danger for them. People need to be humble though and respect it if someone doesn't want input.
