Was Stephen Hawking delusional?

we assume such a genius was not delusional but then in his book a brief history of time by stephen hawking in chapter 8 he starts talking about 'how did god make the big bang in that form". could that indicate he was delusional?

in the book god delusion by dawkins he "translated" such phrases as if they were not referring to god the problem is: only translations that match the words are correct, and translation is "same from other language" but his translation not same. translations that do not match the words are misconstrued.
for example on page 40, quotes, they did NOT write "the universe or nature" did, as disney phrased stuff in the series girl meets world, so "translating" god as anything else is wrong translation.

god might refer to jesus if author believed divinity of jesus but in order to mock christians and call them delusional , dawkins needed to "translate" all the god talk by geniuses... that is pathetic! the geniuses were not atheist. and they wrote god because that is who they refer to.

nobody is trying to prove hawking went to church weekly just kuz he wrote about god. still he is not atheist. poor lonely dawkins!
struggling to "translate" so the geniuses are not christian spending a whole page to say they differ from christian even if true still not atheist.

why bother just say they were delusional? but he needed the "illustrious" minds on his side instead of saying i am a staunch atheist he tries to say they were atheist too.

even if some geniuses are not christian they were not athiest and translating in the same language just to CENSOR out god is absurdly pathetic.
claiming those "deists" were atheists and were not refer to god is the delusion.

He didn’t know, nobody does. It’s untestable and there is no proof he does or doesn’t. Part of the burden of proof is that it’s one way. Lack of proof that God does exist is not proof that God doesn’t exist. Before electricity existed, there was no proof of it existing. That doesn’t mean it didn’t exist.

If you aren’t satisfied with that, then from a practical standpoint, God is used to teach people to be civil and adopt codes of behavior. Unfortunately, there’s disagreement on what those codes should be. Quibbling about the existence of God should be a low priority.

and despite all that the genius "chose to believe" god was real and created space time so in your case if you "can't know" as you wrote, wouldn't following the wise be wiser?

Many find God in their final hours. I don’t need a religion to tell me there is an unfathomable reason why the Big Bang started. Science has a way of uncovering two more questions every time it answers one. It appears the answers are infinite in an infinitely large universe with a finite amount of mass/energy in it. No one knows why.

He seems to be somewhat of a deist but you can’t know. Dawkins is probably right that he used the word “god” as a word for some unknown mechanism of nature and in more of a poetic sense rather than as the name of the Christian deity.

Anyway, the argument is futile. There is nobody genius or not who can definitively answer the question of whether or not gods actually exist.

I just don’t see a point to the argument which warrants any sort of investigative scrutiny. Especially not one which warrants debate. It doesn’t matter whether or not Stephen Hawking was an atheist or not. However, it is worth pointing out that scientists of the past who definitely were not atheists such as Isaac Newton who made great discoveries lived in times when atheism was not accepted in society and the discoveries which would catalyse the spread of atheism such as evolution by natural selection had not yet been made. Many other discoveries since have been made by atheist geniuses. Such as Peter Higgs who discovered the ironically dubbed “god particle” (the Higgs boson).

So where is the argument? What is the point?

But if I was going to jump in and take the side of Dawkins, if Stephen Hawking really did BELIEVE a god exists whether Christian or not as in a literal god and not just using the term as god as a synonym for the laws of physics (which he appears to be), then yes he is delusional because he is believing something on no rational foundation.

No he was not delusional. But he did not argue in good faith, nor did he understand the Christian claim. He, along with many of the new atheists, consistently argue against a God who is in the universe. One that falls underT the rules of space and time. They do not deal with the God who is the creator of space and time.

I am aware of the terrible situation in Haiti. In fact, that terrible poverty in the face of disaster has been the norm throughout history. It's only recently that that has changed in some areas.

Statement was the classic problem of evil because you are questioning why God would allow bad things to happen to good people. Which is precisely one half of the problem of evil

because... god rarely interferes with nature. miracles are only for special purposes. earthquakes and other tragedies also serves to give outsiders the choice to help or be cold hearted or empathy.
