The definition of "faith", according to the Modern Catholic Dictionary, is "The acceptance of the word of another, trusting that one knows what the other is saying and is honest in telling the truth. The basic motive of all faith is the authority (or right to be believed) of someone who is speaking. This authority is an adequate knowledge of what he or she is talking about, and integrity in not wanting to deceive. It is called divine faith when the one believed is God, and human faith when the persons believed are human beings."

Other dictionaries might have a variety of different definitions, but they'll center around having a certain degree of confidence or they'll call it "belief without proof" or something or other.

Having faith in someone, means you know they will be there for you, bugger all to do with just religion. When I say I have faith my team will get the job done, no one even considers it in a religious way. It’s belief in each other and trust.

But it’s based on prior experience tho…right? Would hire a fresh team and give them your biggest client without even knowing any of them?

Depends who did the hiring and the criteria, if you have the right people, then you pretty much know the job will get done. An operations manager trust his engineering manager to hire the right engineers to work in those aircraft. He trusts in their training and competence to get the job done. He trusts them. For your example, if you hire the right team and decide the make up of that team, then yes or why hire them

You say “trust” and “faith” but you’re really talking about the science of training people and the past experience of that training being good. So not really faith.

No you are using YOUR version of faith. Also just because it does not meet your example. You asked how I define it, I said how that is, if you don’t agree, then that is down to how YOU defining it not being the same. imagine everyone being the same. American by chance?

It should be attacked regularly. Your whole belief system should never be let rest or it gets atrophied.

I’d say it’s belief with inadequate evidence. Emphasis on inadequate, as opposed to no evidence at all. Faith is me believing that my life will turn out okay because…well…it has so far, and I’m resourceful and smart, even if I’m facing obstacles that seem insurmountable. Blind faith is more like…me just thinking it’ll be okay…because it has to be.

Faith is a response to knowledge and knowledge being a justified belief based on evidence and the case of Christianity - divine power.

    Hmmm.

It's more like you have to trust in something that is there that you don't see or hear, but that doesn't mean that there is no evidence. One has to have eyes to see and ears to hear it.
